I believe you can use either.  Doesn't matter if you are filing at VSC or CSC.  Your 'A number' is just below your receipt number found on your 1-797 notice of action.  It is referenced as " Reference Number".

Thanks...

How's everyone doing? I still have no updates on my case which I know is still normal. Anyway, @Tcarrol Congratulations on your GC!

Thank you.  Our journey started over 10 years ago.  Our K1 process took well over a year (about 18 months).  Perhaps that's why we were approved in 8 months on ROC.  We had a lot of evidence to submit.  All of you have our best hopes and wishes.  Nobody likes to wait.  But on the bright side, just about everyone gets approved.

When I sent a case inquiry, they didn’t tell me what month are they working on. They told me about my biometrics.

On 03/30/2018, you or your representative contacted USCIS concerning your I-751 / CRI89 to notify us that you have not received your biometrics appointment notice. Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding an appointment to have your biometric images processed at an Application Support Center (ASC). We are unfortunately experiencing a longer processing period than what is reflected on your Form I-751 Receipt Notice.  Be advised that USCIS may be able to reuse the previously captured fingerprints and other biometrics for some applicants and have their biometrics copied into our systems.  In addition, USCIS can run the same security checks and use the same biometric data as in the past and may not need to schedule an additional biometrics appointment.  However, if a biometric appointment is necessary, USCIS will schedule your appointment electronically and mail the appointment notice to your current mailing addres”

but i already did my biometrics last august 2017.

im confusedz

I got the same email a few days after I submitted an inquiry that said to do so if I don't receive an update by March 28th. I was a bit confused as well, not sure what it really means, but it's not an approval or request of evidence so I just didn't really pay attention to it.

The question is : to file or not for N-400? IS it going to speed up or slow down the process? Someone on the April thread said it depends on the field office....

Thoughts? Thank you

Hi I'm a July 2017 flier, sent my application to CSC then got my application transferred back to a local office here in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Feb 26, 2018.

It is NOT true that your file is in Fort Lauderdale.

It has been reported here many times that those notices are sent by a computer programmed by people too lazy to tell the actual situation.

The actual situation is that any time a file is even touched by anyone, it is logged into the system as a 'received file.'

So the notice only means that for some reason a person touched your file and probably sent it from one location to another location within the CSC processing building.

The computer program has no block to check saying 'touched' or 'moved to another location within the same building' so the lazy people merely check the block 'received in local office.'

Or worse . . . they touched your file to move it to the bottom of the stack!!

Bella, these letters are auto generated by computer program after a low skilled person has looked at your request and checked a box in the computer routine.

There are only a limited number of blocks available for this low skilled person  to check in the computer program, so they guess at the one that seems closest and give no consideration to fact that the letter being generated to send to you does not even address the question you asked.

And remember this low skilled person is simultaneously checking their email, facebook page, talking on Skype and flirting with a co-worker when they check the box in the program.

My coworker who applied for ROC in May 2017 went to stamp his passport today in Seattle. An officer told him it now takes about 2 years for ROC approval. Seattle sends all forms to the Californian office, though the officer said that his case was indeed moved to the local field office.

Interesting....

Now, with this said, I would have to say that a face to face conversation directly with USCIS personnel would hold more truth than what Tier 1 or Tier 2 reps have to say.

Did they happen to say what Seattle's processing time frame would be?

Did your co-worker file 90 days prior to their GC expiring?  Just getting a feel for time frames with getting the stamp.  I went in Feb for mine (Sept '15 GC issue date) and was told to return after GC extension letter expired.

Lastly, were they successful in getting the stamp?

So, his green card expired last May, he kinda applied for ROC at the last moment, and therefore the extension letter was about to expire too. They did put the stamp no problem.

I was just surprised to hear that the case was moved to the Seattle office, since here we all read that the cases were not moved anywhere and it’s a glitch. I’m not even sure if it’s true, but also assume that info pass officers know better than people on the phone. IDK. I looked at the other months for 2017 and it doesn’t look like CSC cases moved anywhere.

I am still somewhat on the fence about it, but I have not seen any evidence (aside from the odd anecdote) that filing for your N-400 slows down or really affects your pending I-751. I suppose if one was going to file for citizenship anyway, perhaps it would be wise to file as soon as your eligibility window opens. II think I will file come July, personally. At this rate, I really do not see my file at CSC being completed until sometime in 2019, so why not get a head start on citizenship?

I am just frustrated that, once again, many of us are back in that same wait and see moment of things. We are certainly on the home stretch in terms of immigration, but it still grates on me that after all of this time and money I am still going to wait an inordinate amount of time; and yes, there are many others out there who have far worse timelines than most of us can imagine.
