Didn't receive any extension letter so I have an infopass appointment this Friday to have I-551 stamp.

Hi All,

Nothing has changed on my application, it is still pending and I applied on July 29th, 2017. I got I-551 stamp and also 18 months extension letter. However, letter and green card are not valid anymore anyway because of the I-551 stamp.

Pro: I-551 stamp extended my travel until July 2019

Con: Right after getting I-551, GC, 12 months and 18 months letter became invalid.

The IO right after putting I-551 stamp made my GC and letter invalid. I realized that when I was coming back from Canada. When I handed my GC and 12 months extention letter, the IO officer at the border said that it was already expired in the system. He said, the moment you receive I-551 stamp on the passport everything else becomes invalid. That's when I showed him I-551 stamp and was able to cross the border.

I pray for everyone including me that we all go thru this intense process successfully.

Regards

More Pros:

-less paper to carry and pass around

-less potential for CBP  to forget to one page and/or the expired GC

-less worry about losing papers and card

When I got my stamp, the IO mentioned to me this is all I needed then mentioned the stamp was just like the immigration visa that was put in my passport when my I-130 was approved and then stamped when I immigrated.  Guess that's why he kept both the extension letter and my expired GC.  This in itself says it all.  You don't need them anymore once you get the I-551 stamp.

I do not understand why people still want to carry other (expired) documents with them.  When you are entering the USA from any country, that CBP officer should know the deal.

In my case, they refused to give me the stamp because of the extension letter was still valid........

That is very strange.  Most people do not wait until the extension letter expires before getting an infopass stamp especially if one has to travel.  I got a stamp Aug 16 when my extension letter( the 1st one) is/was still valid until 9/25 as  I am flying early October.  I am a CSC filer and got stamp ( luckily) from the Sacramento office.

Btw:  On the same day that I got the i551 stamp, the 18month extension letter arrived.

I’m in and out the country several times a week because I’m a flight attendant and trust me, some of the CBP officers have no idea what they suppose to do.
