July 2017 CSC filer here. I haven't posted in a while but I just received my 18 month extension letter today (mine is dated 08/18/2018).

Well i was just about to schedule an infopass appointment when husband came back with the mail and my new extension letter was there! Yay! 😊

noa 1 dated july 6th 2017. 

Case moved to "local office" march 5th 2018.

today received 18 month extension letter dated 8/18/18. 

 

 

So is the 18 months starting from the date on the letter? Or 18 months from the expiration date on the gc

It will be 18 months from the expiration date on your conditional green card.

 

Has anyone else who received the 18 month extension experienced this????  My spouse just received her letter (I-797C notice of action stating status has been extended 18 months, replacing the original 12-month I-797C), and the top of the letter said this was just a courtesy copy, and the official notice was sent "according to the mailing preferences you chose on Form G-28".  Thing is, we've never utilized Form G-28, since we don't have an attorney or accredited representative and never have.

I have the same note on mine and haven’t worked with attorneys.

no. but what i think that means is the official notice was the first extension letter  or i-751 receipt notice. i think thats why the second letter says “this is a coutesy copy”

Ok, that's helpful.  We'll call USCIS on Monday and post what they tell us, although last time we called them (less than a month ago), they told us we wouldn't be receiving 18-month letters, and that the advisory posted to the USCIS website was wrong, so who knows how they'll respond this time.

Mine does not say this, and it’s also I-797 not I-797C for mine. We never worked with an attorney or accredited rep either.

We filed the petition ourselves without any attorney. And I confirmed with them the same that there is no attorney information on file.

I am not sure why I did not get i797 which is an official notice.

So seems like this i797c form is useless really. Will keep waiting for the actual i797 😑

The 18 month extension letter is extending the the initial extension letter by six months. 12+6= 18. The letter is telling the petitioner that the letter extends the validity of the i551 for 18 months from the initial expiration date. The i551 referred to in the letter is in fact the Green Card.

July '17 CSC filer here (my husband) - he got his 18 month extension yesterday as well.
