I just got that in my inbox too, I'm so relieved!! Though I'll still be silly and worry between now and when the mail carrier delivers it...we don't get our mail till 6pm haha. The USPS Informed Delivery thing is amazing!! Wish they'd had it when we were doing AOS!

Question above about Tax Transcripts vs Tax Returns.

All outside persons and entities (USCIS in our cases) much prefer the Transcripts to Returns.

Simple logic tells us why.

Anyone can sit down and use pen or computer to make up a Tax Return with entirely fictitious

info; and then send this return to anyone . . . except you wouldn't want to send it to IRS !!

On the other hand, a Tax Transcript comes from the IRS and gives info that was on the Tax Return you actually filed with the IRS.  Most people are reluctant to file a fictitious Tax Return with the IRS, hence the Tax Transcripts reflect real info.  This is what USCIS wants to see to give some evidence that the two of you have merged your financial situation.

Hi all.....feels so strange to be back on these forums, but it is the BEST source of information and I am so thankful for it.  Hello to all the Canadian peeps out there.

My window for filing is after July 31st and I'm starting to gather alllllllll of the things....lol.  My concern is that sometime in the next year we will be moving to another state....I don't have a definite move date.  If it can take a year to get my gc, how do I reliably notify the powers that be that I have moved?

Now, after previous comments, I am also concerned about becoming a US citizen.  My thought all along has been that I wouldn't take it (I am also very disconcerted by the oath renouncing Canada).  Being in my 50's I would more than likely move back to Canada to be closer to my son should something happen to my husband.  But now, with seeing comments....it could be possible that I wouldn't be able to inherit my husband's estate if I don't have citizenship?  Could someone send me a path to start researching this please?

I will be happy to share more as I find it, I only just started doing the research this week and yesterday came across that thread I posted above. I have to look into it more, but so far I've taken everything I've read says nothing about a non-US citizen being unable to inherit the USC's estate, only that the non-USC will be subject to paying estate taxes on the estate they inherit. Whereas if you're both US citizens, the assets left to you by your spouse are tax-exempt from estate taxes, no matter how large an amount you have in assets. I've read differing numbers ranging from a minimum of $2 million all the way up to $5 million with regards to the point at which you have to start paying taxes on the estate if you are a non-USC. At this point in my life, $2 million in assets seems like an astronomical number which my husband and I would never reach, but given that assets include property and investments and life insurance and such, maybe much, much later down the road it could be possible, who knows. So if you and your husband have, say, $20 million in assets, citizenship seems beneficial because otherwise you're paying estate taxes on at least $15 million-$18 million of that -- and I believe they're also due immediately after the death of the USC, because they don't want to take the risk that you as a non-USC could just take the money and go back to your home country. If you don't have a ton of assets and likely never will hit that $2 million-$5 million exemption limit, then it doesn't seem to make much difference whether you remain a non-USC or get citizenship.

You would file AR-11 for yourself (can be done online) and I-865 for your sponsor (can only be paper mailed still, I think). Both need to be filed, I didn't realize this when we moved and so I promptly updated my address but never thought to change my husband's (the sponsor) until months later. I believe if you have a pending application, such as your I-751, in processing then when you file the AR-11 for yourself you also have to do a second step and update it with both the AR-11 and the Online Change of Address system. It's listed on the AR-11 instructions page in detail though.

Your address on your profile is showing as PA. I think you are supposed to send the paper work to Vermont service center if you are still living in PA.

It looks like there are still a few people who haven't had their cheques cashed yet or received NOA for VSC (unless they just haven't updated their timelines yet). Hopefully tomorrow or early next week?
