Get the stamp....less to carry.  It's one item to how at customs and immigration.

Definitely worth the pain booking and going to the appt.

Here is the link

https://my.uscis.gov/appointment

You will need your passport, your green card and Extension letter. Also you should have your ID ( Driver License)  with you.

Make a copy of your expired green card - just in case if they gonna keep it in exchange foe a stamp.

Hope your local Office is not that busy - good luck with making an appointment!!!

Every time I have gone to the info pass page to make an appointment it always says no appointments available and to check back later.  I have checked every day for a week and never anything available (Pittsburgh, PA office)

thanks,

You'll need to bring your appt confirmation notice too.  Driver's license isn't really needed as you have your passport but it doesn't hurt.  Just another item of ID to carry and/or lose.

You might find more success going to a less busy USCIS office nearby.  Sometimes is worth the drive.

Midnight is good but also super early in the morning....like 5:30-6:00.  Busier offices sometimes take walk ins BUT I have read there could be line ups.  If you read past pages here and in June 2017 filers people have posted their experiences.  I would imagine Detroit is a pretty busy office.

About Driver license - I was asked by IO to present it. My son as also - well, it was the same IO, so .. ; ) Probably depends on the Officer you get and we already know each USCIS Office can be ruled differently, slightly.

You're so right!  Ever office and every officer is sooooo different.

I suppose having a state license helps the IO understand your case better and its just one more proof of evidence showing your residing in that state.  But totally unneeded as proof of valid ID as some people prefer not to drive.  I know many.  And at times, I wish I didn't either 😉

IO shouldn't demand it, as it is optional, totally optional.  A DL is not a mandatory piece of ID.
