Hi All,

I am planning to visit Canada by road for a week or so. My 1 year extension letter expires in October. Do you guys think it is safe to travel with expired GC / extension letter expiring end of October? FYI, I made an appointment for Infopass for this week so I will keep you all posted on I-551 stamp status.

Thanks in advance for all your response,

MB

You are fine. My letter also expires in Oct and been to Canada twice this past couple months. They never asked me for the letter either (I assume they already have everything in system) but still make sure you bring both. (well, passport too)

Hey, Question for July Filers - For those that got their I-551 Stamp, how much time was left on your extension letter?

As with a lot the offices, mine never seems to have Infopass appointments. The last time I needed one, it took days of auto-refreshing the screen. I have been randomly going on and the other day I got an appointment for July 31 and took it. My letter doesn't expire until October though.

I'm a bit anxious because I have international travel in September and November and I just started a new work project that will have me traveling pretty frequently.

Has anyone been able to get the stamp with > 2 months left on their extension?

I got it on 7/20/18 and my letter expires on 8/7/18. So basically 2 weeks.

Wow! that is very coincidental! Would freak me out if we were on the same plane! :-)  Yes I am going home for Thanksgiving - taking United with a stop in Chicago.

Thanks! I will try and book this week!

You may have already told me this but what is the zip code for the Reno office?

@theanswerisdance  when you were booking an appointment  at the Reno office, did they ask or care if you are coming from a different office?

89501 would be a good one.

=================================

Yes, me.

Got stamp July 13, extension letter expires Sept 25.  No questions asked about why I needed it.

The couple before us got denied the stamp but I wasn't able to hear their particulars.

Our IO was informed and knew there was a tremendously backlog of cases in CSC.

I suspect this aided in the 'no questions' asked and the year extension on the stamp.

Hi I am new here, November 2017 filer. I just would like to clarify and get an insight from all of you regarding the new memo.....

Effective Date:

This updated guidance is effective September 11, 2018 and applies to all applications, petitions, and requests received after the effective date.

I am worried about this but this only applies to applicants after the effectivity date correct? I feel like i did not submit sufficient documentation. I am expecting RFE.

I suspect you have nothing to worry about since they are implementing this to applicants after Sept 2018.  If there is something majorly wrong with your application, of course, you will get an RFE but on the good side, if its a simple error and easily fixed then you should get approval quickly after your documents are received.  In some cases, its good to get an RFE, as its an indicator of an approval around the corner.  Stay positive.

Apologies for the late reply here - The IO did not mention any specifics in terms of processing time for the N-400 at my office. I got the distinct feeling that there was also an inordinate wait time (in comparison to old processing times) from what was being said, but that is purely my guess.

Np, I was asking just to get a feel for what your IO thought wait time is and how it differs from stats.

The officer who gave me my stamp was knowledgeable and had a good understanding of wait times.  His data correlated to USCIS stats.  Which is good.  I have limited tolerance for bs.

The online system doesn’t ask any questions, but I was planning to take a printout of the page that comes up when you try to book in both Sac and SF that says they’re not booking appointments at the moment at either of those offices except on an emergency basis. But I think people go to other local offices aside from their designated one pretty regularly so I’m not anticipating too many problems!

Good idea.  Always good to be one step ahead of the game.

On another note, someone posted here or in June that they drove to another local office (think SC) for their stamp as Atlanta was swamped.  Easy peasy.  No questions asked.  Sometimes its worth the drive.

Did you apply for citizenship yet? I decided to wait before I submit my N-400 to avoid complications.

Hello Guys!!

I have great news!!! I just got a mail today where they confirmed that they approved my I751 and that I will be receiving my green card soon.

One important thing that I need to mention is that the receipt # that I have used to check the status of my case was not the good one cuz in the notification I received today in my mail, they had the case # that they used when they sent me the extension letter which is different from the one that they used for my biometric appointment letter...  I know it can be confusing buttt....... I just used the new EAC# and now it says that they already mailed the new green card yesterday.

Anyways, just wanted to share this info with you just in case this could be happening to you as well. My NOA date was July 3, 2017.

Already filed the N400 and already had the fingerprints for that too last week... Will keep you posted.

Congratulation.

We are on the same boat. CSC here too and the last time my case was touched was February 2018 since then never heard anything.

The same here. I am a CSC filler and last time my case was touched was March 2018, no notifications or changes since then.

I was going to try and get the I-551 stamp next week (I have an Infopass booked) but I have 5 months left on my extension letter, so that may not go over well. Still, seems like some people were able to get it with several months to go.
