So, I've got a few questions that are bouncing around my brain constantly.

My first question is this... How much, on average does each case cost in fees from start -> finish if it's done individually with no lawyers, or external help? Just so I have an idea of how much to set aside for everything.

Secondly, and imo the most important. When I'm finally at the stage where my wife will be receiving the instruction packet for how to set up her interview and her medical examination. Will this be mailed through the mail in her home country or emailed to her? If it's mailed through the mail, which paperwork do they use to find her address, just so I'm informed on how that works, and how it will get to her. Mail in her country is very confusing to both her and I. I'm sure the consulate has the resources to figure it out though.

Lastly. I know for certain that I will need a joint sponsor for the I-864. When I receive my I-864 package, will I need a separate package for my joint sponsor or will the package include everything I need for myself and a joint sponsor?

Answers:

  • In addition to the above, issuing authorities may charge a modest fee to issue required civil documents.
  • No instruction packet regarding setting up and interview and/or medical exam will be mailed or emailed.  After the petition is approved by USCIS, it will be sent to the NVC where your I-864 and photocopies her civil documents will be submitted.  Once the NVC has what they need and complete what they need to do with the file (review for completeness), then they will schedule the interview based on what the Embassy tells them is available.  Ensure the NVC has email addresses of record for both of you, that way, all communication to/from will be electronic (and that will include interview date notification).  It will be your wife's responsibility to schedule her medical exam, more information on that can be found here:  https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/interview/prepare/medical-examination.html
  • Your I-864 package and the I-864 package from the joint will be submitted together.
