My interview was scheduled for July 11 (Tuesday) at 8:00 am. I reached the embassy by 7:00 am with my husband. We were asked to wait as the entry for 8:00 am interview will start at 7:30. At 7:30 they asked to form a queue...both Immigration and non immigration. There were 10- 11 people before me. Then they asked all the immigration visa applicants to step out of the existing queue and for another. The next queue looked too short and we were 2nd. They asked us to show our interview letter and passport at the entrance. My husband showed his American passport and the security person allowed him to go with me after tallying his name as petitioner. After the manual security check and the folders being scanned through we were asked to follow the red line on the floor and enter the big hall where further processing would be done. All the applicants were asked to sit in the specific area of the hall. Staff members came and asked us to handover the passport, appointment letter, 2 photos, DS260(the stamped one), birth + marriage certificate (original and one copy), original PCC (they took only one), sealed medical reports. They arranged the documents in order and gave back instructing us not to change the order of documents. At 8:00 they told us to go to window no. 21, where the lady pasted the Token no. on the appointment letter and gave the entire set back and asked to move to the window where our token no. would flash. Before we could see our no. one if the staff members said mam its window 25 for you. A very sweet but sincere girl at the window. She verified all the documents, returned originals, then asked for 2016 tax return. I gave that along with the new i864 with wet signature. She said they already have i864 and need only tax return. She prepared the file with all the required documents and I could see they had everything we sent to USCIS and NVC. She returned the appointment letter and said we have to now wait for interview with CO as the token no. flashes. Gave me the pamphlet about the legal rights and said to go through it as the CO might ask questions about it. It was 8:15 am. There were only TWO dedicated windows for Immigration cases. We were enjoying the conversation between the CO and tourist visa applicants at the other windows. I read the content of the pamphlet and remembered the helpline no 911. At 8:55, our number came at window 23. They call out the number also. At the window there was the African American CO. He greeted us very politely. Asked my husband if he is the petitioner and say 'very cool' after my husband confirmed yes. CO said that he would ask me the questions and my husband can answer when asked to and he can be with me all the time.

The officer made me take the Oath. Then asked below questions:

1. Have you read this pamphlet?
Yes
2. Can you tell me about it?
I told very briefly including the helpline no. He said - ‘fantastic!!’
3. Is this a love marriage or arranged marriage?

His last comment - Wow you guys are doing awesome in your jobs! Congratulations!! Your Visa has been APPROVED!

He gave me the yellow paper where it says - Congratulation!! Your immigration Visa has been approved and you can collect it from the Pickup address in 3 to 5 working days. And the white paper with the instruction for payment of $220 for green card before I travel.

No question to my husband, No evidence or supporting documents, No photos, call/chat details asked.

Overall a GREAT experience!! Very helpful staff and once you enter the Embassy one doesn’t feel you are alone. Staffs are really helpful to the people who were on their own. I was overwhelmed to see how they were helping the elderly people. They are doing excellent job! Cheers!!

Hey @Sohel- I saw a similar case in New Delhi Embassy today. There was this girl whose case started way back in 2015 and she was attending the interview today. When the embassy staff asked all of us to take give them the original birth+marriage + Police clearance certificates, the girl said that their lawyer was looking into their case always and he asked them to send the originals to NVC. Then the staff member said, during document verification all the originals (if sent by NVC to Embassy - which was true in her case) would be returned back to her. After verification of the documents she got them back. Embassy returns even the envelope in which we send the documents to NVC along with any additional documents we may have sent and they don't need then..in our case we got my husband's 1099 & pay stubs back along with the cover sheet and the envelope (nicely folded and clipped).

@chamma- they even returned the updated I864 for 2016 tax return with original sign. The lady said- "NVC never asked you for this, we only asked 2016 tax return and we need that only no i864."

@PP_2016 - that's drives all the misconceptions away.. Thanks...

14 hours ago, PP_2016 said:

Taking some addtional documents would never hurt. Whatever they don't need, they return. They took only one PCC original out of two. I asked them 3 times if they really need only one original PCC? They said yes. I didn't ask the reason. However, they took both the originals from few. One reason I could see is I live in the same city where the interview was conducted. Most if the people attending the interviews were from Punjab and other states.

So i suggest, since the requirement could differ in each case, why take chance. Carry everything you have..

@PP_2016 - they took both the PCCs??? strange!! I shall carry both of them ...
