IR1/CR1 Mumbai consulate interview prepration

Hi ,

 

We have our interview scheduled @ Mumbai Consulate on Aug 4.

 

My understanding of next steps is below:

 

A)Using below link i have to schedule finger print appointment.

B)Go for medical - Keep the package sealed.

C)Show up @Mumbai Consulate 30 minutes prior to the assigned time with documents.

I am confused on below points after reading consulate reviews, Please share your inputs if you are aware of the same.

 

1) Can a petitioner accompany beneficiary to the interview?

 

2) Can we have our bio metric appointment scheduled in Chennai and medical in Ahmedabad? will it make a difference?

 

3)Does Mumbai consulate return the passport same day?

 

4)I have seen people mentioning about VFS service,  what is that?

 

5)Do they really ask for whats app chat log?

Should be allowed. Call the helpline to confirm before you made plans.

2) Can we have our bio metric appointment scheduled in Chennai and medical in Ahmedabad? will it make a difference?

I am not too sure if it is going to make much of a difference. I have my interview in Mumbai but got medical done in Chennai & biometrics in Mumbai

3)Does Mumbai consulate return the passport same day?

Tanish's passport was available for pick up Next Day

4)I have seen people mentioning about VFS service,  what is that?

That's about choosing the pick up location of your passport. 

 

5)Do they really ask for whats app chat log?

I am yet to attend the Interview  so I am not sure...

That sounds right.

1) Can a petitioner accompany beneficiary to the interview? I don't know. You should ask consulate. I didn't see anyone's petitioner attending interview when I attended.

 

2) Can we have our bio metric appointment scheduled in Chennai and medical in Ahmedabad? will it make a difference?

Yes, you can do that. Doesn't make any difference.

 

3)Does Mumbai consulate return the passport same day?

If your pick up location is other than Mumbai, you should expect to receive passport within 3-4 business days at max (excluding interview date)

 

4)I have seen people mentioning about VFS service,  what is that?

 

5)Do they really ask for whats app chat log?

I wasn't asked to present those. I wasn't carrying them anyways. I only had call logs. It's better not to provide too much personal information to them. The more personal info you provide the more chance they have of trapping you. I would suggest you to carry your call logs only and only present them if asked explicitly.

"Who can attend my visa interview? Generally, you may not bring anyone else, other than a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident relative who has petitioned for you, to your interview. We do make the following exceptions to this policy.."

This is directly from the Packet 4 from Mumbai US Embassy site, but I would call to make sure if you absolutely must have your spouse come in with you.

 

Side note -- there are other VJers here with Embassies that *only* allow the applicant in, but having the US citizen spouse hand over his/her passport to his/her partner seems to prove helpful. During the interview, the applicant can simply slide the spouse's passport in and say, "my husband/wife is here with me as well" or wait and when asked, "when was the last time you guys saw each other?", you can answer "today, he/she is outside waiting for me!" -- you get the idea 

 

I have booked my ticket and will be at hubby's interview in New Delhi. As far as we know ND allows the US spouse in, either way, I will be planted somewhere near the Embassy no matter what!
