"Special Needs Driver" causes accident that leaves New Jersey Governor Corzine critically injured

Sorry, I don't think that's funny.

Who said anything about it being funny? ;)

People...and not just people here, but New Jerseyites all over the 'net...seem very pleased by the fact that their governor was critically injured in a car accident. I find that a bit disturbing.

Corzine is extremely unpopular. For good reason.

Really? Do tell. I moved away just after he whupped Forrester's a$$ and hadn't heard anything since.

There was this huge media fiasco over property taxes. Turned out ok but his ratings took a beating. And then the Carla Katz revelations, nothing new, just more of the usual Jersey corruption. And the latest thing is his plans to "monetize" the Turnpike.

Maybe a DRIVER who NEEDS a SPECIAL lawyer?

Nope. NJ State Police will not be pressing charges against him due to his "special needs" condition.

Are you suggesting that he was given a license even though he has no business being behind the wheel? I'd say that applies to a very high percentage of licensed drivers.

The news articles I've read so far have been light on the details. So I have no idea, at this point, what "special needs" this guy has.

Gov. Jon S. Corzine was apparently not wearing his seat belt as required by law when his official SUV crashed into a guard rail, leaving the governor hospitalized in critical condition, two spokesmen said Friday.

So is Bush, but you wouldn't see me cheering if someone ran him down with their car.

Latest story from the Courier News no longer mentions "special needs". Curious.

The 20-year-old driver of the red Ford truck believed to have caused the crash has not been charged because he has unaware he had caused an accident, New Jersey State Police said Saturday. The man, whom authorities did not name because he is not being charged, works at a casino in Atlantic City.

Probably because having "special needs" puts him in a PC "protected class."

A state official with knowledge of the investigation, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly, said the truck's driver, who works at an Atlantic City casino, was a "special needs driver" who may have a mental impairment.

Shouldn't a special need driver be off the roads?

You don't think a paraplegic should be able to obtain a license to drive?

I don't think those are the kind of 'special needs' we're thinking of.

I'm asking to define a person with special needs that should NOT be issued a license to drive - a paraplegic is someone who has 'special needs'. So if everyone goes, "Ohhhhhh" when they hear the driver has 'special needs' there is the implication that that was the cause of the accident. Can anyone clearly define what kind of pre-existing condition would disqualify someone from getting a license if they pass the test? Even if the special needs means they have some kind of mental handicap, which ones should we right out deny a license to?

My understanding is the Gov. was in the back seat of his SUV. No seatbelts required. No Ticket. Unfortunately critically injured.

His diver and a State Trooper were up front wearing seat belts and had minor bumps and bruises.

In any vehicle upfront or in the back everyone should buckle up.

I think Princess Di would be alive today if she had worn a seatbelt in the back of the Benz she was in. Her body guard upfront, belted-in and survived.

For the most part..... Seat Belts save lives !!!
