Yikes good or yikes bad? Manila, China and South Africa are perfectly safe countries.

I have no problem traveling to the Philippines or China. Not going to South Africa anytime soon though as it has one of the highest crime rates.  

Apparently all of them are  dangerous enough for the US Government to give "Danger Pay".

I'm really curious how much of a percentage difference it is compared to a non-dangerous country like say Iceland or Japan.
