There are different expectations, at least for me, between media and the President.

 

I expect the President to be acting on solid factual evidence when he speaks on a topic. I expect him to act with respect towards all people in the country, as he represents all of us. I expect him to be above personal attacks, no matter how many people personally attack him. His is in a democractically elected position that makes him the representative and leader of all of us.

 

News media are corporate institutions that exist to make money. They are looking for more clicks, more page reads, so that they can make more money from advertisers.

 

It is really very silly to expect similar behaviors from the two.

Currently we have a President and a media with no integrity.

 

To me it is pretty clear which one of those things is worse. The office of President has become a twitter bully and jokster. It's not that unexpected from corporate media (since they focus on viewership by making the biggest headlines, regardless of the truth). From the office of President, I find it quite sad.

I intended (with a typo) to say "nebulously defined group". There are literally hundreds of websites/news outlets you could fit in this thread. If each one had just 10 employees reporting that would be literally thousands of people who could be caught telling a lie.

...sigh...I'll try short bullet points.

 

1. I never said it was okay that Media lies.

2.  It is very wrong to compare the number of lies told by a single person with the number of lies told by an entire group of people spread across multiple organizations.

3. What is the point of the comparison? Are you trying to argue that the number of lies are similar? So Trump lies as much as dozens of news outlets and potentially hundreds or thousands of people put together? Doesn't seem to reflect well on Trump

3. The office of President should have a different standard than a media or news outlet.

4. The goals of the two (President vs. news media) are very different. One is to serve the people (President), the other is to make money (News media).

trump has never been about serving anyone. doubtful he can even grasp civics as a concept. trump seems to be in it for making money off his personal brand just as much as the media has a bottom line.
