I don't understand why you are worried about safety?

As for healthcare, are you planning to have medical insurance? Most policies come with a major medical cap that limit annual expenses. Most public hospitals will negotiate payments. If you don't have insurance and financial resources you may be considered indigent, and costs may be written off by the hospital entirely. I'm not sure how that may work for immigrants.

Private hospitals are less likely to negotiate.

Every Insurance plan is completely different and in the US and it is important to make sure you carry insurance and know you can afford the costs associated with your insurance plan (not all plans are equal).

Each Hospital Bills differently depending on their contracted rates with insurance policies (there is a lot of negioating that goes on behind the scenes with hospitals and insurance companies, Hospitals are typically paid far less than they actually bill because of negotiations through insurance companies). If you don't have insurance they you tend to get the full bill from the hospital unfortunately (not the negotiated insurance price).

If you are a self payer - meaning you don't have insurance - you will usually get a different rate but you will have to make the hospital/clinic aware of that prior to the visit.

Each clinic/hospital costs different as well. Emergency departments will charge 10x more than a typical clinic/urgent care visit for the same procedure (Only go to the ER if it is an absolute emergency). Each state also handles medical debt differently.

I am work in a hospital and have had to learn about the billing systems in the US as part of my schooling and to allow me to start a small business. It is very complicated but the best thing you can do for yourself is get health insurance.

Sorry this was supposed to be addressed to the OG poster :)

I'm also not sure what the fear with Safety is really either?

My son as a young uninsured adult working minimum wage job and no real property, had his appendix rupture.  This was over a decade ago.  With complications the hospital bill alone was just short of $100,000 .  The state ended up picking up about 90% of the bill ( thank you tax payers )  and my son made arrangements to pay monthly on the rest. That took about 8 years to pay off.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
