Hi,

I did my interview for the CR-1 on Thursday 22nd of June at 930 am.

Everything went well and I got the welcome letter. I explained that I was living with my wife as a visitor in the US and I have an ESTA waiver for that. She staying with me in Montreal I an Airbnb until I get my passport back.

The interviewer explained that they need to double check everything, police certs etc. I didn't want to push anymore than that.

Well it's been almost a week and she has to fly to Taiwan on Friday from Boston. So she has to leave me here alone. I have also just finished working (in Vancouver, apparently Montreal was the closest place for me to do a consulate interview) with the intention of applying for an ssn and getting a new job once I get admitted.

So now I am sitting here bleeding money, waiting in montreal. The status is still appointment on the consulate website and the status is "READY" on ceac. Almost as if the interview never happened.

What can I do? Can I do anything?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Conor

Quite normal.

Im surprised you decided to wait there.  It can take a week to over a month to get the visa back. Most people go home.

Im confused on your esta thing as canada doesnt have esta.

It can be long - you might want to find an alternate solution for your accommodation.

Maybe eTA?

I am Irish but a permanent resident of Canada, I have an esta to visit the us and stay with my wife. I had read that in this case, the passport can be expedited but the interviewer said that only in the case of medical emergencies do they expedite. I thought it would take a few days, not a month.

Ah that makes sense then.  It will take a bit longer with you not being a Canadian citizen.  But yes it can take a month or more.  Rarely these days is it few days.

That was me two years ago!!! It was a nightmare! I was stuck in Montreal for 2 weeks! I phoned the consulate / visa people / EVERY DAY. Then I had to drive down to another city in Quebec and pick up my visa. That was the happiest day ever. I was finally free to leave! lol. Don't worry... it's going to take a long time... but keep calling to make yourself feel like you're doing something. Enjoy Montreal. The time will pass and in 2 years from now, you won't remember the money you're wasting right now.

You said you are a Canadian Resident, carry on doing what you did?
