Yes, it can be done, but only your wife will be able to file an immigrant petition for her, and only after your wife becomes a US citizen.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Citizenship Oath 08/23/12

This is true. You cannot file for your mother in-law since she is not related to you, and your wife can't either because she is only a legal permanent resident. Only US citizens are allowed to petition for their parents. Since your wife has been a LPR for about a year now, she would have to wait 2 more years for her to be able to apply for citizenship and then she can petition her own mother. Once she sends in the petition, it should take about a year for her mother to receive her visa. So you're looking at about a 3-4 year wait.

Review the requirements for a visitor visa on her country's US embassy website. The officer at the POE determines length of stay - usually maximum of 6 months. You are required to prove that she will not immigrate and that she will return to her country at the end of her stay, so you need to have evidence to support that.

You can afford the Insurance Premiums/Co-Pays and all the out of pocket expenses I take it?

HI! i would love to do the same thing to my wife's parents. I was just reading the form I-130, and under section 3: "For Whom May I File?".. at section H. it says that I can file for, grandparent, grandchild, nephew, niece, uncle, aunt, cousin or IN-LAW.. and majority of the reply here says it is not possible, because USC is not biologically related to the parents. but why would the form says that it can bring "IN-LAW" for processing I-130? i just want to clarify this. thanks for the support. :)

Boiler - getting people to think about the health care for parents, etc is a seemingly futile task, isn't it. Makes one wonder if they have ever tried the American health care system for themselves to see what it really cost. One accident or serious illness could set you back so many $$$ if you have to pay for it out of pocket that your finances could take years and years to recover, if you can ever bail out.

I am in the same situation. You can invite your mother in law to visit you without any problem. Usually they give 6 months.

About green card, I don`t know why it says that you can petition in law, but I have never heard somebody actualy done it. You can always try but the the best is your wife when she is citizen to do it. That`s why I am waiting to became a citizen. I am afraid that they will refuse my husband and then might will be even more difficult, but you never know. Every case is different.

You can not petition for her. When your wife will become a US citizen, she can petition her mother. Yes, your mother-in-law can apply for a visit visa.
