Green Card Rec'd

To all...

I have received my green card, which permits me to travel outside of the country. However, my foreign passport has my maiden name on it. I have contacted the Philippine Consulate concerning this issue, for which they said that I need to contact the Manila Embassy in order to amend or change my passport. So my questions are:

1. What has been other foreign wife's experience(s) traveling with their green card and passport not matching?

2. How has other foreign wives gone about amending or changing their foreign passports to match their married names on their green cards?

Thanks in advance,

Deputy Uling

Howdy,

I don't have this kind of experience myself, but from what I've heard, this is how things are done:

1. People who have different names on a GC and a passport should buy tickets in the name that is shown in the passport, and carry a marriage certificate with them to explain and prove the name change. There should be no problems.

2. It depends on a country that issued the passport. Sometimes it's very easily done through the Consulate, but in some cases (like with the Russian passorts), it is very hard and there's so much paperwork involved that I myself will not do it ever. Me thinks :)

All in all, you won't have any problems travelling, even if the names don't match :)

Hi Deputy Uling,

As my experience now, trying to contact my sister who is working in Phil Immigration. She said to me that I need to book my ticket on my maiden name, since my passport is still on my maiden name. Me and my family now we're planning to visit Manila this June-July. That's the first i noticed when I'm booking ticket, there's a note there, the name in your ID (w/c is a passport) should match the ticket.

About the greencard, she need to use that on her entry in US when she get back, just remind her to bring your marriage certificate on your travel to match and satisfy the change name in her Greencard.

I got that same issue's as well, because as I will have vacation in Manila, my passport will be expiring end of this year, my sister says I need to ammend my passport in Manila or I could do it in Washington DC through courier application where the Phil. Embassy is, that I need to check the website. They say not until your passport is not expiring the only thing they could do is to ammend the name on the page3 of a Phil. passport, they will anoted there the change name. In my case I will renew it when i got home and my old passport as they say (but i will need to check on that still) i will show my old passport and my new passport to satisfy the same name on my ticket when i get back to US.

I'll keep in touch with this matter.

God bless!

Just a note. If you apply for a new Philippine passport under your married name through the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., you will also need to file a Report of Marriage. Both forms (passport renewal & Report of Marriage) and requiremetns can be found on the embassy website.
