Once you receive your NVC case number you can input it online to the CEAC status checker.  When it says "ready for interview" you can complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee and then schedule your interview.

For Nigeria, they only emailed me a packet on the places we were able to get the medical and the police certificate but I got this online from the embassy website before I got the email.  This is country-specific so you can look through the forums for your country to figure out how they do the packets.  A search would VJ would probably quickly give you the answer.

It took my case 1 month from NOA2 until the embassy received it.  This was back in 2015.  Things seem to be moving pretty quickly.   Just check the status!

you can't track believe me the only way you will know if your case is complete is by calling they will not change the status online till the case is closed

I see that you are pursuing a spousal visa, the processes are much different for you than they are for a K1.  The OP is pursuing a K1, not a spousal visa.

For us (K1), you can track at the NVC and embassy stage.

Yes you are correct can track it via the CEAC website! Once they had received our case took about 7-10 days for it to arrive at the embassy!  I've written a full blog post about it:
