You can add a line if your want, but it is not required. I did not have a line for the Notary and the Nortary was able to sign and stamp the letters.

The person who writes the letter will sign the letter in front of the Nortary and then the Nortary will sign and stamp the letter. The letter can not be signed without being witnessed by the Nortary.

Good luck

Where in the 1-751 instructions does it say they have to be notarized?

It suggest them being sworn to, but not notarized. I did not get my letters notarized, and many others have not either with no problems with approval.

Jan. 2004: K1 visa issued ~ April 2004: Got on a plane ~ Nov. 2004: GC in my mucky hands ~ Dec. 2006: Received 10 YR GC

I did NOT get mine notoarized and I have a new shiny 10 yr old greencard in my wallet! I did have plenty of other evidence!! Maybe if al i had for evidence was those letters, i would get them notarized, but probably not!! i included the friends phon #'s on the letter, so if Immigration doubted the validity of them, they could always call those friends!! But to be safe, its not wrong to get them notarized!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

As the instructions say under Evidence of the Relationship on page 2: "Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people," etc. An affidavit is always notarized, else it's not a sworn or affirmed affidavit.

Perhaps some of the other folks did not have their affidavits notarized, but whatever they submitted was treated for what it was: an unsworn and unaffirmed letter. Presumably they had other evidence that made affidavits unnecessary or superfluous.

Meh

Well, you learn something new every day.

Yup, so mine were letters, not affidavits. There is no way I would have asked those poor people to bother to go get it notarized as well. Sheesh! But, as pointed out, they don't have to be notarized, unless you want to present affidavits as evidence, not simply letters from friends.
