hi fellow VJ's! Im a wife of LPR and I am applying for B2 visa to visit him for a month. I am now having a hard time filling in the ds 160 form. 1st i haven't changed my status and surname in my passport. There is a question if i have an immediate relative in the US, i typed my husband name but when I click the spouse under how i am related to him the computer didnt accept it because we have different surnames. btw, i have my marriage contract with as a proof. its just that i dont want to be misinterpreted during my interview. Can you guys help me with this form? I really need your help! Thank you

It has nothing to do with your surnames that the system wouldn't allow you to list him as your spouse. The form is smart but not that smart :jest:

Best you can do is to complete the form with the same name as listed in your passport. If I am not mistaken, the DS-160 has a field for other names used. You can list your married name right there.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

Are you sure I can add my married name to other names? i thought only maiden name could be put in that section. how about to the relationship to my contact in US? everytime i click spouse it says that it doenst matches with my personal info because what is written in my passport is single. im really confused right now. hope you could enlighten my mind

Actually, not only maiden names could be written in the "Other Names Used" column. If you were married previously and had a different married name, you will be listing it there too.

But back to your question, unless you are gonna get your passport changed/updated in time, I don't think you have much choice other than listing your current married name under "Other Names Used" because a visa will only be issued in the name matching what's listed in your passport. All you need to do is bring your marriage certificate with you to the B2 interview as well as when you're entering the US in case the CBP officer wants to see proof of your married name.

Having said all that, it would be wise to contact your local US embassy to ask them what's the best course of action in your circumstances. That would save a lot of time and headache :) All the best.
