I have discussed this with my doctor who referred me to the nurse at my local practice regarding vaccinations. Sadly she was very by the book and stated she won't give me Td as a top up as it is not required in the UK (after my last was over 10 years ago).

I know from reading the sticky guide here (thanks) that I don't need another Pertussis shot to receive my K1 visa but I am confused by the wording in the guide.

Do I only need Td for K1+AOS later or do I also need Tdap for AOS?

The guide also states DTaP, but DTaP is a vaccination that seems to only be given to young children?

Should I look to get Td/Tdap done here in the UK in a private clinic or should I have it in the US? Has anyone had any experience getting their doctor to approve?

My doctor gave me the childhood strength and for free.  Depends on your doctor. If you've had pertussis jab and record of it, that's one in your life. Td is the common top up every 10 years, so if nothing within 10 years, get Td. You can go to any place that gives shots like maybe Sainburys or ask for one at Knightsbridge and pay. Price list is on their website.

if you get complete and it's recorded at your visa medical, you may get to skip any further doctor appointment in the US at a civil surgeon. Otherwise you pay a USCIS approved civil surgeon to do a new immunization sheet and many of them won't do that without doing the whole medical again. Some people pay in excess of $200. Insurance will not cover it.

Best case, free on NHS. Next best is pay for the Td somewhere prior to visa medical exam so it is recorded on an official immigration document. Worst case, pay for the shot in the US prior to AOS and pay a civil surgeon to fill out a new form and do the medical exam all over again (even though exam is not required).

Remember it has to be recorded on your form at Knightsbridge to count for AOS

Thanks, the problem with asking again is with the nurse that does them. Basically they refer you to the nurse with details of the vaccinations you ask for and then it's up to her to obtain the vaccinations. After making the appointment the nurse called and said she could do the mmr but wasn't sure about the dtp, that she would find out more and let me know at my appointment.

I successfully had the first course of my mmr and ill be having the second in 3 weeks time. The nurse explicitly told me at my appointment that I will have to get the tetanus and diphtheria at a travel clinic as the only time they give it is if there's a health risk.

If I go back to the practice and ask again I'm afraid I'll only get referred to the same nurse again.

So it looks like I'll have to find somewhere to pay. The local pharmacists will do a tetanus diphtheria and polio vaccination for £34. It seems like you can't get only td on it's own in the UK. Either that or I ask for a different nurse.

It's £45 at Knightsbridge and includes the polio. NHS don't have to give free shots for immigration purposes. Some do and some don't.

Walgreens in the US $55

CVS $75

Walmart $31.90

plus the cost of a Civil Surgeon to copy it to an I-693 form for AOS
