I've just begun the process and I haven't even sent in the K1 Visa packet yet. My fiance is from Romania and currently lives in the UK. Soon he will be relocating to Germany. Should I wait to file until after he has moved to Germany? It will probably be about a month before he moves and I want to get the visa process started as soon as possible, but I don't want to cause additional delays by being impatient.

Thank you for your input!

Hi Holly! :)

It might be wiser to wait till after he has moved to Germany to file your I-129F.

  1. You don't have to worry about getting his address changed or updated once he gets to Germany.
  2. USCIS and NVC don't need to wonder why he's planning to interview in Germany instead of the UK (if his last address is in the UK during your early submission before he's in Germany).
  3. NVC won't accidentally route his case file to the UK instead of Germany (if his latest address is stated as Germany)
  4. He doesn't need to deal with the headache of trying to get his case file re-routed to Germany because of unintentional routing mistake (see #3).

Postponing your submission by a month is better than getting delayed for a good amount of time while waiting for the re-routing to happen. NVC and the embassy will push you guys around telling you that you guys need to contact the other party and nothing gets done quickly. This is based on what I've read around anyways -_-

So, good luck and don't forget to update your timeline when the time comes!!

ps: Routing to the wrong embassy could happen to anyone too if the NVC staff is not careful, not just in your situation. Just thought I'd put it out there.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.
