Ok -- **MMR and **Polio, I have a feeling the Dr will realize that these were given to kids and he has received it like most folks, but have no records. I think that leaves a few vaccines, which are not given in single forms, they are mostly combo shots.

Here is a list of the vaccines, correct me if I missed any:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Influenza
  • Influenza type b (Hib)
  • Measles **
  • Meningococcal
  • Mumps **
  • Pneumococcal
  • Pertussis
  • Polio **
  • Rotavirus
  • Rubella **
  • Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
  • Varicella ** if you had chickenpox you might not be required to get this?

So trying to decode the vaccine codes, thought I'd post them here!

  • DPT: Diphtheria, Pertussis (whooping cough) and Tetanus
  • TD: Tetanus and Diphtheria
  • IPV: Inactivated Polio VaccinePPV: Pneumococcal Vaccine
  • HIB: Haemophilus influenzae type b
  • TDap (tripacel): Listed as TDap on the official list, but should have been typed as DTap (tripacel) vaccine. It is for Diphtheria,Tetanus and Pertussis in children.

So it is very possible that a healthy adult from India would need to get a few of these, but not *all* of them. I am leaning towards TD, Hep A/B maybe PPV -_-

Furthermore, I found this on the USCIS website:

Under the immigration laws of the United States, a foreign national who applies for an immigrant visa abroad, or who seeks to adjust status to a permanent resident while in the United States, is required to receive vaccinations to prevent the following diseases:

  • Mumps (**This is often given in a combo called MMR)
  • Measles (**This is often given in a combo called MMR)
  • Rubella (**This is often given in a combo called MMR)
  • Polio (**Most of us receive this when we are kids)
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
  • Pertussis (Whooping cough)
  • Haemophilus influenzae type B
  • Hepatitis B
  • Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices

And from https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/vaccinations.html page:

In order to assist the panel physican, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants should have their vaccination records available for the panel physician's review at the time of the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular health care provider to obtain a copy of their immunization record, if one is available.

If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician. Only a physician can determine which of the listed vaccinations are medically appropriate for you, given your age, medical history and current medical condition.

So, it is very possible that once hubby meets the appointed Dr. he will not have to get all of these.

The thing is, the Embassy approved Dr. might have the ultimate power over the medical, so there is a chance that he/she will not accept paperwork unless it is the actual records showing your vaccination history. I was going to ask hubby to go for his titers, but in all honesty, there is a chance that these blood work reports can also be found "unacceptable" by one of the Drs at the SRL Limited or Max Med Center in ND, hence he will still need the vaccinations.

Let me know what you find out. Hubby is going to make his appointment and see what is what -- I will post when I have more info from our end.

Can someone share their experiences on medical/vaccine situation for India? :help:

Hubby has had his vaccines, some when he was a child and some when he was in school, but there are no records of it, being that back then things did not get recorded so well in India.

How will this play out for us? Should I ask him to go get his titers and take the records to the medical -or- bite the bullet and have him re-vaccinate himself? I just cannot imagine him being injected *all* the vaccines I saw on the list. 15 or so vaccines in one day....ugh, that will hurt someone badly! :dead:

Any folks from India who were/are in the same boat, what did you do? How many vaccines did you need to get?

Any help would be much appreciated.

We are also nearing our case complete at nvc. And my husband also faces the injections as he has no records of immunizations.  I am also curious about this

Don't fret guys!! :D

I did not have my vaccination records and did not have 15 shots. :D:D

Yes USCIS has a whole lot of information on the vaccines required on it's websites & the pre interview checkists of relevant embassies. However these vaccinations are not for people across all ages (I have missed the URL with relevant info regarding this). The vaccinations are age specific. So I had only 3 shots.

The only mandatory things to carry are already on the website

  • passport size pictures(US compliant)
  • unexpired passport
  • P4 letter

I only went with these. Had to pay 12000 INR at Chennai's Apollo. They collected the samples, had my Chest X Ray(to detect TB) & a physician consultation. Post which I was asked to take TDAP, MMR & Varicella vaccines. The decision to administer these vaccines was quite strange. I was administered these based on my oral confirmation that I did not have Vaccination records. The test results were not taken into consideration to administer them (because the results were out only the next day); I was clueless regarding the process. The results were available only next day (might vary from clinic to clinic). The results were available in an unopened envelope, a CD (with my X Rays) & a copy  of what was administered to me (for my personal reference).

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, thanks for sharing your experiences, it's been very helpful! @NihalV I'm also from Surat. Can you please share your PCC experience at Surat PSK? I have basic questions like how did you schedule an appointment and how long did it take to process? Also what documents did they ask for? I have read on some old posts that a PSK won't issue a PCC without seeing a checklist first, but I find it hard to believe.

Thank you!

Haha, thanks for the prompt reply! It's for my wife. Her address has changed since we got married. I'll ask her to take some bank statements with her as the proof of new address.

My husband also got his pcc very easily in Bhopal.  He made appt.  Paid the 500rps and got certificate and passport stamp in less than 1 hour.  He said it was actually very simple.  He was surprised.
