You are supposed to get the pcc from passport office. Not from police commissioner s office. That's the invalid pcc.

you should get it from passport office and then Mail it to NVC

I agree with the other person who responded.  This is incorrect.  Sorry my friend.  Go now for the correct one and send it.  If they get it before your reviewed it could still keep u from getting a checklist

I talked to my relative in india...they said everyone who is going to oversees gets PCC from their office and they have had not any problem. Is US an exception?

It's your choice.  Your wait at nvc will be several weeks.  Plenty of time to send the correct document and not create a delay for yourself.  Only trying to help but you can do as u wish😊 best of luck.

No it is not an exception. You should follow rules on travel. Gov rather than your relatives. Please apply for a pcc from the passport office and then mail to it nvc. Just get it done quicker to avoid a checklist.

I understand that and i thank you for that. :)  Just confused because relative is saying passport office will not give you PCC unless asked for from embassy?

is that true?

Incorrect.  Take your approval letter from uscis (i-130, i-129..i don't know what u filed exactly) and show it at the passport office.  They will give u your pcc.  My husband got his a few months ago.  We are now nearly at interview stage.

Also see the first few pages of this forum. Many people have given detailed steps to get the pcc.

http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/welcomeLink

 please use the above link to create a login and take an appointment for PCC.

you can call the nvc, to check if you need to send thee tire package. I don't think you will need to. The barcode sheet with the correct pcc should suffice.

Also Pcc is a very important document. I haven't seen nvc approving without a correct pcc.

Hope this helps!! This forum has enough information to help you.. just search and don't panic . 😊

Good luck!!

I guess an appointment is necessary with the passport office for the pcc. And you will get it after you book a slot with them by using the URL I shared. You wouldn't get it by walking in.

Nope not right. We are also from Punjab. Got the same kind of PCC and ended up getting a checklist. This is not right. You need one from the passport office.

@aura099

Yes this PCC works for Canada and Australia I think. For the States you need one from the Passport office. And not to scare you but in Punjab it isn't that easy. You need to book an appointment first, then they send the police to your place to do an inquiry and get some witnesses. Once the police sends a clear report back to the passport office they send you a notification to come collect the PCC. At least that is how it worked for us. My husband even had to get a new passport because my name wasn't listed on his passport as his spouse and the passport office said they would not issue a PCC unless he gets a new passport.
