Hi,

My wife is in process of gettting K-3 visa from Islamabad consulate and I read from the forum she need DS-156 besides other forms.

My question is can I fill this form here and then print it out and then send it to her? Or the embassy will ask her to fill the same form they sent her?

Thanks,

I recommend that you fill out:

1. DS 230 Part 1

2. DS 156

3. DS 156K

Send it to her and then when she gets those forms from the Embassy just copy the content from your forms to it and proceed

This is a just a suggestion as this is what I am having my wife do.

Is there a reason you are having your fiance recopy the information , rather than just sending in the forms you already filled out?

I was going to have my fiance just send in the forms I prefilled out.

Also, what are you doing about the online DS156?

Any feedback is welcomed!

The two reasons I am having my wife fill it out again are:

1. She can familiarize her self with the form and contents incase there are any questions at the interview

2. If she is asked if she is the one who filled the forms she can truthfully say that YES she filled them.

I filled out the online DS156 and printed it with the barcode but if that form is sent again to her I will have copy the contents to the one she was sent for the above reasons and if she needs to fill it online she will still fill it out online herself from the form I am sending her and submit it.

This is just my thinking and trying to be safe

Thank you for the clarification. On the DS forms and 156, and 157- it asks who filled out the form. I received previous advice- that it doesn't matter if I fill out the form and just write that in the space.

Your post is giving me space to pause and rethink...

thank you, I will ask a bit about this. If it is better for my fiance to fill out the forms- we will definitely do so!

yes you can fill out the forms yourself and send it to your wife. according to your timeline, there has not been an interview date scheduled. Keep in mind that the gov't keeps updating these forms and if your wife submits the forms that you filled out, those forms may have been expired by the time she needs them for interview. This happened with my husband. The embassy mailed him the required forms to fill out and was told to bring THESE FORMS back with him to his interview and he filled them out accordingly. He brought the forms that the embassy mailed to him with him to the interview ( just like they specified in the mail) and when he gave them to the embassy, the woman said...YOU NEED TO REDO THESE, THE FORMS YOU HAVE ARE NO LONGER GOOD!

Hi,

Send it to her and then when she gets those forms from the Embassy just copy the content from your forms to it and proceed

This is a just a suggestion as this is what I am having my wife do.

I will do the same, I am going to fill them, print them and will send it to her then she can copy the text to the one embassy will send to her.

Just another question came in my mind, Do we need DS-157? I read that is needed if the beneficery is MALE. what you think?

According to the instructions, it is to filled out by the following.

All male applicants between the ages of 16 and 45

plus all male and female applicants aged 16 or over who hold a passport from China, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria

I filled out the DS230, DS156 & DS 156K online, printed them and sent them to my fiancé. He just signed them, after we went over them together so I knew that he understood every answer of every line. I did it soon before the interview and reconfirmed that the dates were valid before sending him the forms. I put in my own name where it says did anyone help you fill in the forms. We didn’t have any problem about it obviously.

Yes DS156K is generally only for males between 16-45, and generally instructions on whether it is needed or not can be found in each country’s Packet 3 and/or 4. However it is a very brief form to fill out and I’d say if there is any doubt, why not just fill it out and take it with you? I'm a fan of over-preparation being MUCH better than under-preparation!

Data Sheet,

You'll have to get this one answered by someone who's had experience with a female visa applicant in Pakistan. The consular officer processing the case has the option to require a DS-157 for a female applicant, and at some consulates the consular officers do require a DS-157 from female applicants.

Khurram,

What's better about it?

Yodrak

.... just meant it in a general way that its better if she said she filled it out

If I was interviewing someone (which I do at my Job) and they told me that some form was filled out by someone else even if it was a spouse I would think that the form lost it's importance as if the USCIS or the consulate wanted the spouse to fill out the form they would have have indicated that like they do with the affidavit of support.

Now, this is just my opinion and this is what i am doing and since I think this is a better choice myself I share it as an idea as well.

What do you think?
