So, in the light of the "caravan" event and threats of closing down the border, how is everybody feeling about immigration? I'm kind of worried all this action is gonna slow down/grind to a near-halt an already painfully slow and overloaded system. What says ?

There's been no changes proposed yet, and most significant changes take a good amount of time (policies) or changes to the law (not happening...).

The border incident is a CBP issue + asylum cases. It's unlikely to affect USICS processing times for family and employment cases.

Government shutdowns (being threatened now) traditionally have not had a meaningful impact on USICS. They are almost entirely self-funded. Some exceptions may apply for the use of federal buildings.

okay, that is reassuring! I'm just anxious because I hate being separated, and fear any more separation haha. Its already such a grueling process...

Just like the termination of DACA, the cruel family separation policy, and the Muslim Ban, this proposed rule criminalizes immigration and represents an extremist attempt to close America's doors to all but those with financial means.

I'm not familiar with the proposed regulation you're referring to.  But you got it all wrong on the others mentioned, so I'd guess you probably got it wrong on this one too.

I'm not a Trump or Hillary voter but for the first time ever we'll get a refund of $150 instead of owing $450! My husband is self-employed. He also receives gas royalty checks (majority of our income). I'm a stay-at-home mom. We have 3 kids & my MIL whom we support financially. We claimed all 4 of them as dependents. We had subsidised Trumpcare/Obamacare plans. My MIL paid $35/month in premiums, we paid $30/month for both of us. It's good insurance. We'll lose in November when my MIL will turn 65 and she will go on Medicare. Kids are on Medicaid. We live in TX. AGI about $40k. (MIL gets less than $1000/month in Social Security.)

According to my husband we are "poor", not middle class. I think we are lower middle class...

The only thing where people might have a problem is they are trying to bring siblings or parents, other than that then it will be business as usual.

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post or not. However, my wife has her IR1 in hand (I am a USC) and we plan on returning to the USA in August, when our baby is a bit older for the flight. However, with Trump's new proposal and his use of EOs sometimes when he doesn't get what he wants, should I be buying the next plane ticket to the USA to get the green card activated to avoid any risk. What really concerned me was the passage in the article below stating that everyone in the green card process would be required to apply again under the new proposed system.

I'm sure I'm being paranoid but I would appreciate other thoughts on the matter.

“Immigrants in the green card backlog would lose their place in line and would need to apply under the new point-based system,” according to an analysis from Berry Appleman & Leiden. “The White House has said people who are currently waiting for green cards will receive additional points, but no specifics have been released.” This was confirmed by Donald Trump’s May 16, 2019, speech, in which he stated that all current family and employment-based preference categories would be eliminated and replaced by new “Build America” visas awarded by points.

THIS WILL NOT AFFECT IMMEDIATE FAMILY IMMIGRATION AT ALL. STOP BELIEVING THE HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All this is is hype and clickbait drivers for these website. If you actually read what was proposed and what has been talked about for a while now. Then you would see that it doesn't affect petitions for spouses or children but it would affect petitions for siblings or parents.

Thank you for the reply. As I said I'm sure I'm being paranoid but I did my due diligence in trying to find a source or site explaining the proposal in a clear and direct manner (from fox news to Washpo and everywhere in between) and nothing was explicit. And I did see it mention siblings and parents and children and spouses for Green Card Holders but nothing explicit about USC immediate family.

Not a problem at all they have been talking about putting this forward for quite some time. So we have talked about it alot and the general concisous from studying the proposed plans was that this would not affect any type of spouse or children petitions at all. It would more than likely affect petitions for siblings and parents though which are a large part of the whole "chain migration" going on. So this would limit that. This plan is a work in progress because you know when it gets to Congress it could change altogether.

I am glad that you are digging in to it and not just trying to believe the clickbait bs going on.

Agree - I will be as diplomatic with my response to the news today (and comment no further) BUT Trump confirmed himself it won't affect spouses/children (s).  This has yet all to go through congress which I don't think will "merit" :P

Even if process for making this as law starts from tomorrow,  it may take 2-3 months. This can not be made by EO.
