That sounds fair : )  If the majority of us have to go through the K1/CR1 process, it's not fair when people take advantage of  the B1/B2 visas and AOS.

indeed. i'm not saying they should not be able to immigrate because if they are legally married to a USC then of course they should be able to. my point is that a B1/B2 is for tourism and should be used as such, there should be no link from it to AOS directly. this is a loophole that a lot of people abuse. this is the reason why it is an uphill battle getting B1/B2s from most countries, because a lot of people use it and abuse it and legitimate tourists are therefore then subjected to a much harder time. anyway, this is just my opinion, it hardly matters in the grand scheme (or scheming lol) of things.

Wasnt there an article a few months ago that stating that they were going to close this loophole? That hasn't happened, so I doubt what they say regarding the rest of the immigration laws will happen. All this going on this past year or so, just slows down immigration, its stop, start, to be honest I feel like I am watching a circus, bring on the clowns for act 2 and if I get bored of this particular circus I shall just tune into Brexit which is another circus act!

I think they all just stall for time.  What they want to do and what they do are two separate things.  Just like it is with Brexit, it's about popularity and not the votes from the people. I don't take much credence to the laws with DACA or sponsoring family members or any such thing any more, as I would end up on pills and drink just to keep sane.

Keep in mind that this bill mentions nothing about fiancé (K1 visas) and states it's intent is to limit to spouses and minor children ONLY. It could be assumed, from the language of the bill that K1's also get cut.

Also guys (and I read this bill over a few days ago) there's an interesting tidbit regarding some immigrants having to provide proof of health insurance and that, by not having health insurance, your visa could be revoked! Think about it -- SCOTUS ruled that the government could not compel or force someone to purchase health insurance (they instead allowed them to keep the 'tax' instead of a 'fine' definition). This will directly tie and force some classes of immigrants to have and maintain health insurance at all times under threat of deportation. Indeed this would cause the government to force some classes of persons to purchase healthcare, instead of others. It also appears that for all immigrant classes - they would be rendered ineligible for O'care as well, something that would also be contrary to law.

I do read around quite a lot from different perspectives, one angle some conservative publications weren't happy about is that even though it gets rid of the DV lottery, it essentially opens up a new type of lottery specifically for special business interests (that have heavily lobbied) to obtain a significant chunk of temporary visa workers for cheap labor, and essentially undercutting the American workforce even more - in addition, to a new 'high skilled' selection, which would also import high-skilled immigrants into the tech sector, also undercutting the American workforce.

The additional fact that this bill would essentially cancel any petitions, some of which have been in line (and obeying the law) for years, is truly horrifying.

Someone should please post the link to the parallel thread, or at least give its precise title and which forum it's in.

This procedure is immensely helpful when people report duplicate threads.  Thanks.

I think I finally found it. Are you referring to this one?

This afternoon the White House issued its legislative framework to accommodate the Dreamers and reform Immigration.

as you know the deadline for Dreamers is March 5th.

the proposal includes ending all family immigration except for spouses and children under 18. No parents, grown children or siblings.

The critical point will be what they will do with pending petitions for the categories they will eliminate?

one proposal is to invalidate all pending petitions at both USCIS and at NVC. That would mean even if we have our petition approved at USCIS but not the NVC we will be eliminated from the process.

To keep up to date there is plenty of coverage online on any of the US News sites.

People have invested time and money to apply for their family members, it would be extremely unfair if they don't grandfather in the pending applications. I understand eliminating the lottery part, nobody cares about that one. I think it's also unfair to grant citizenship to people who are illegally and not give the right to citizenship to parents who are supported by their children and sign the sponsorship form to bring their parents.

I don't think the intentions of the RAISE act is to be cruel but to look out for the welfare of the country and what immigration of older individuals immigrating would cost (just a fact older individuals have more health needs which the US is trying to avoid covering when they immigrate here later in life). So this would make sense.

You can't bring older Americans here without proving you are financially responsible enough to support them, nor can they become public charges and stick a bill to a hospital for a 70  year old lady, the bill will go the sponsor who filled out an I-864 financial support form, so the idea of not bringing older family members here because they would "cost more" is a myth.

The reason my field of work in healthcare is in increasing in depend is because of the health needs of the aging population. As a physical therapist in America I would strongly disagree and respond aging does require more health needs.

A hospital bill is the result of a private contract for goods and services. It can be part of consideration during inheritance of their estate, but they cannot use an I-864 to recoup funds from a sponsor.

Beyond that, enforcement of the I-864 is quite rare.

And as I stated in another forum of someone that was curious about the costs of someone around the age of 65.

My parents experience with my fathers (age 66) stroke 3 years ago when he was airlifted to a Hospital in Boston (which is an hour away from where my parents live). His insurance during the event was mistaken and my parents accidentally received a bill to their house for $80,000 dollars. The $80,000 was strictly for transport to the hospital it did not include,  the 5 days of Neuro ICU care (or two surgeries that followed), It did not include the 4 days of step down unit care, and it did not include the 4 weeks of inpatient therapy services that he required, but my guess is if he did not have insurance it would easily been over one million dollars of bills. My father was playing golf every day before his stroke. Aging happens and it sucks but the US health care system is expensive not 100s of dollars or 1,000s of dollars expensive but 100s of thousands of dollars expensive if you are lucky.

I've read the complete opposite on other immigration forums; hospitals, courts, credit card companies will all pursue a sponsor of an immigrant for financial reasons, these folks (especially hospitals) will not easily roll over and write off hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills, it doesn't happen.
