I don't think anyone is 100% sure what will happen next with this travel ban. It seems that they (The Supreme Court) will do a full review of it in October. Turkey is not on the list on 'banned' countries however, so your K1 petition should not be affected.

Thanks for your response. My fiance is Syrian, living in Turkey.

I'm just worried about our K1 application going forward, and if this news will substantially delay the process, I guess.

For now, I don't think there will be a delay in K1 processing, even for filers from the banned countries. The announcement today mentioned that there is a ban for foreigners from those countries who lack a "bona fide relationship" (not sure if fiance counts as bona fide relationship, personally I think it should) with someone in the US.

There was a bit of panic here on VJ the last time the travel ban went into affect, but ultimately nothing slowed down much since the ban was overturned within a short time. Ultimately it's too early to say for sure what will happen. I'm hoping for a speedy process for you and your fiancee and that we can all be with our loved ones no matter where they come from.

Thank you. I really hope that's the case too. I think fiance must count because isn't one of the requirements of the K1 visa proving you're in a bona fide relationship, right?

I'll try to think a bit more positively from now on.

What? Of course you need to prove a bonafide relationship to receive a I-129F approval or K-1 visa approval. If you cannot show you have a real relationship, you will walk out of the embassy empty-handed.

Also, I have Fox News on and they say people with bonafide relationships to a USC are allowed into the country through certain visas.

We'll see what sort of impact this will have. Most citizens of these countries didn't have an easy way to get a visa without a bona fide status to begin with, and the SCOTUS ruling has even specifically mentioned student visas and work visas, in addition to relationships (which I hope K-1 application would satitsfy). So there is a chance, in practice at least, that this watered down version of the ban wouldn't change the status quo much.

This article below is what I have been mentioning to people and they don't seem to believe it.  When Trump signed this Order 2 or 3 months ago (No this is not the ban order), it was on CNN.COM for a day.

I honestly think Trump is doing a great job keeping the people distracted by his tweets and silly news that takes the front page, but behind closed doors, he has an agenda and making good progress.

Honestly in my own personal opinion, this is a measure that was needed. Any sort of immigration needs to have proper scrutiny applied and make sure it the individual(s) are thoroughly vetted. Look at what is happening in Europe right now, a lot of that has had to do with their open border like policies. Not everything happened from a 'first generation' immigrant family, sometimes it actually was the second generation that caused trouble/violence. No system is perfect and there is no way to predict the future naturally; but something needed to change.

And by the way, you only get distracted by tweets if you bother to pay attention to them. Otherwise it generally is just a lot of President bashing done by the media from what I see.

Well said!

Looks like a good move to me. This is also regarding short term visa's which have a large number of people that overstay. Maybe you and the news sources are distracted by tweets. That's up to you on how much energy you want to put into them. I look at policy over personality and this seems like a good move. In the article it seems that Obama opened the flood gates. It seems now they want to regulate the flow and make sure we know who is coming in and why. So rhetoric aside, how is this a bad thing?

I think there will be a lot of variation by country and this rules opens a can of worms in terms of discrimination based on stereotypes.

It will also depend on who the ambassador is in terms of trying to keep the time people have to wait to something that makes sense or not. Career people might try to keep it efficient. Politicians, who knows, but those usually get the "nice" countries.

I think that a lot of states, particularly Florida, have been putting pressure on the government about visitors because a lot of their economy relies on Tourism and people are already going elsewhere because they don't want to pay for holidays they won't be able to take. Florida is a Republican state so they could have influence in terms of not delaying visitor visas from countries that don't pose any threats. The same with student visas. Student visas should have to be given in 3 months because people don't get the i-20 very early and classes start in August. It'd be very bad for business and academia in general if international students cannot start classes because the consulate takes forever with everyone's visas. A lot of the universities have a big part of their money come from foreigners in undergrad and terminal masters.

They could loose the election if certain parts of the economy go down and that is the only thing most politicians really care about. Don't think for a moment this is about policy. This is about staying in power.
