So according to the revision, the same 7 countries are targeted. Green card holders are safe and those who already hold a visa.

Actually one of the sticking points and why the order hasn't been signed yet is those who hold a visa. The White House wants the visa's revoked again. The DoJ says no. Who will win on this I don't know. If the WH has any brains left, it will be the DoJ.

I don´t get how any of it really impacts illegal immigrants - parolees are people *already* getting in the system. They're people who want to become legal.

You're right... mostly, the people that rolling back Advance Parole will hurt are people on "non-immigrant" visas (like the K1 Fiance(e) visa) who are applying to adjust to an immigrant visa (like a CR1). The article also doesn't seem to understand that Advance Parole allows people who are already here to leave and return without penalty. For example, without it, someone who'd come here on a K1 visa, got married, and was waiting for their green card to be processed would not be able to leave the US without abandoning their petition to immigrate. 

 

I think the loophole they're trying to close is one that allows DACA recipients to leave and re-enter the US, which then theoretically makes them eligible to adjust status if they marry a citizen. (of course, it also allows them to leave the US to visit a sick relative, or go to Paris, or anything else) 

 

It seems to me as though the current administration plays on fear of "the other" and the average American's lack of understanding of US Immigration policies to further their own agenda. It seems counter-productive to eliminate "parole," effectively trapping people inside the US, in an effort to curtail undocumented people (since by definition, anyone applying for "AP" is already documented, just not as an immigrant)

I quite like his ideas especially the road rebuilding. We have some awful roads here! But honestly, when I seen the link I was a little scared he's attacking (legal) immigrants

Trump talked very limited about legal family based immigration reform,  he also said he wants to speed up the process for those waiting in line...

Any update guys?

Currently watching the President address Congress. Immigration was a very short subject, honestly and so far nothing what he said was about legal immigration. He only mentioned the marriage-based immigration once but nothing bad as what I understood from it. I think he rather talks about ISIS and how he can defeat them bigly.
