My husband is keeping his citizenship and after being married/living together for 3 years (even if it's abroad) I qualify for citizenship. But I'll need to know how to speak dutch....which I work on everyday! :D

But then he needs to keep a legal adress in the Netherlans i think, When you stay out of the Netherlands for more then 6 months withouth a home adress the write you out as a citezen. So does that still work then??

I had a really hard time getting my new pasport when i was gone for a long period and i even still had my house in th NL, but i rented it out.

He still has his home address as well :)

I thought the Netherlands would still renew your Dutch passport  without much difficulty so long as you're not a citizen of another country? My husband will have a hard time renewing his as well then? :(

defenetly need to keep his homeadress, Then it should work, he might have to prove it really is the adress where he lives though, I would have him call het Gemeentehuis. and make shure in your specific situation.

Ah, I'll let him know for sure. I'll have him look into it further.

I know his passport is valid for the next 8 years. What if he were to return to the Netherlands to renew it? Would the process be easier?

you defenitly have to be in the Netherlands to renwe it, but even then they don't just hand them out if your out of the country a lot. Its crazy even if your born in the Netherlands and have no other citezenships.

From the impression I've gotten off of VJ/90 day fiance there are a lot of these cases.... woman from developing country with few opportunities is easily granted rights to enter the US because a desperate American man will gladly take in a beautiful foreign woman as his wife... not really bona fide / equal relationship if you ask me...

And it works the other way too... especially with older and overweight American women.  No shade, but it is hard for women over the age of 30 or with kids to have a decent dating life in America.

-----

Y'all don't know anything about Danish immigration.  When I moved there, they assigned different points to spouses based on basically being from white and western countries than not (or rather natively English or German speaking), you had to be above the age of 24, and a bunch of other crazy things.  They've since changed their spousal laws several times in the past 5 years and I think have removed points now.  Their citizenship laws completely exclude housewives or husbands from ever being eligible until they work I think it is 5 years straight now and join the proper Danish civic organizations, etc.

Oh and they've deported children for not being natively fluent in Danish.

Fun times.

That's exactly my point. Legal immigration in most countries is incredibly difficult or seemingly impossible unless you fall under all the rules. The U.S isn't hard at all by comparison...we're actually pretty open.

Which is why I get so confused about the entire illegal immigration argument. Go to almost any other 1st world country in the world and see what happens if you try to illegally immigrate....

That being said, I do feel for illegal immigrants and know quite a few. They're great people and work incredibly hard just to survive....it's just a very saddening situation over all :(

I agree 100% and it is maddening to watch Danish people and the media get all up in arms about the "Muslim Ban" when their entire immigration system is basically built around excluding Muslims in every non racist way they can think of.  Under my current understanding, we couldn't even move straight back now, which is ridiculous.  With Brexit, we could move to any other EU country or the UK (I can meet the financial requirements and am a citizen), but not the country my husband spent most of his life in.

Relatedly and on topic, I heard some senator on TV talking about wanting to do away with diversity visas.  I wonder if that will come to pass.

It is a bit ridiculous for a country to criticize immigration when they themselves make it so difficult...

I heard that as well...I also read something that stated H1B visa will be targeted next. The idea is that it'll require companies to pay H1B immigrants at least  $100,000 rather than the current 60,000...which is actually a great idea in my opinion.

Agree, and honestly often i find these man worse then the woman, they go wife shopping because they want a beutifull woman that treats them like a king and do anything they want. There not looking for an equeal partner, but someone they can have a form of power over, that has nothing to do with love. So really the get exactually what they look for, something fake for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, I don't blame a woman for wanting to get out of a situation where she has little to no opportunity to support herself but in the case of the man, it's taking advantage of a situation.

I've seen many men from Egypt acting like this. When my husband and I got married in 2009, there was this Egyptian guy trying so hard to get married to this women who was twice his age, and morbidly obese. She, the USC told me that the US Embassy was actually forcing her to return to the US (based upon health reasons) and did not accept/approve their marriage... in the end it was found he had an Egyptian wife.

It's stories like this, that just piss me off. :girlwerewolf2xn:

There are many genuine relationships & marriages too, but to be honest you can see right through those that aren't.

I feel worse for those older single USC women, who take the time, money, effort, and not to mention their heart, in order to get these con-artists over to the US, only to be hurt in the long run.

When my husband and I were married, everyone kept asking us if we planned on going to the US; for my husband and I, it was never our first intention to go to the US immediately, as my husband still had two years to finish his engineering degree, and his dad was ill (he was helping his dad). It was only after my husband graduated, began working in his field of study, and his father's death, did we make concrete plans on coming to the US. I have two sons that I've been away from, although I've visited, and we Skype everyday, it's still not enough; plus now my mother is very ill.

At least for my husband and I, we could have managed living in Egypt as we have an 'okay' life here... but their are many reasons for us as a couple/family to move to the US.

Pretty incredible.

Imagine going to another country illegally . . . and then being granted rights ????

USA citizens . . . try this in another country.

It's known as the circus court - 85% overturn rate. This will be overturned but it will take time.

I feel bad that she's having to be separated from her husband because he's working there and she hasn't obtained the citizenship yet.
