Traveling some distance from relatives to marry and live has some hardships, of course.

For those doing this in today's circumstances and bemoaning the struggles are advised to think what it was like a hundred years or so before modern modes of communication and travel.

And excellent book and Hallmark movie is:  Sarah Plain and Tall.

Might indeed, but it isn't the culture or our way of life.  For the most part America seems to expect people to assimilate.  I don't think that the answer is to allow them to come, it's to make visiting more possible.

These guys are going all out with creating misery for families. Anyway, there's a new bill about to be introduced to do away with I-130's for adult siblings and parents: My question; if I filed for I-130 for siblings and parents (I'm a citizen), before this law comes into effect... would they be in the clear, or would it nullify their application?

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/immigration-trump-senate-cotton-234706

If only the current administration would realize that what Bannon whispers should not become policy.
Immigrants create jobs period. We have no issues being over run by legal immigrants. None.
What we do have a problem with is an education system that does not catapult high school kids and college kids
into top notch innovation. The big techno giants understand this and look outside of the US for top notch innovators.
High school kids have become lazy and entitled. Many don't want to further their education. Many do and can't afford it.
I worry about this education system that keeps falling behind other countries much more than legal immigrants.

Typical example from the Midwest I am currently experiencing:
At the plant where my husband works he was promoted to lead in his department after one year, while the company is bypassing
all those who have been there for 20, 30 + years. Yet, he as a fresh immigrant gets promoted. Why ? They can't find anyone

to hire who passes the drug tests or who wants to work hard. My hubby works circles around them and the managers
are blown away stating they have never seen anyone fill orders as fast as he does.
So there is another side to this "we want jobs" outcry ......many want jobs but are too lazy to better themselves or
work hard or want their drug and smoke it too.

The High School education here has become a joke. It can only get worse, the current president doesn't

read books he says, yeah go ye forth and un inspire and introduce vouchers.

Education or rather the lack of it is the weak link, not immigrants.

And I understand that. Culturally the ties between parents and siblings may be significantly stronger in other countries than it is in some places. But I don't think you should ever doubt that leaving our families behind and moving to America is a painful decision for everyone. We all love our families very much. My husband was not even able to attend this grandparent's funerals, and he constantly worries about the health of his parents as they age. His siblings are still young even though they are adults, but they mostly go and do their own thing. My husband was the person that was always there for them and looked after them, just as I do for my own parents. It's hard. I'd think people from every nation would feel a lot better and more confident if somehow the ability to make visiting more streamlined and easier was greatly improved or increased.

Right.  trump boasted once that he used government loopholes to avoid paying taxes.  He was very smug about it.  Bend the rules if it works for him, but its a different story when the shoe is on the other foot.

Most businesses do, expenses, deductibles. Can't wait till he implements tax cuts and eliminates all the waste of taxpayers money, he's already made a start. Now I won't feel as bad paying my taxes knowing that someone isn't wasting it on bad deals. I did get a $7,000 tax refund this year which brought my tax rate down to 15%. I can't wait to see what my tax rate is for 2017!!

Right.  I'm beginning to believe my husband would prefer to go back to his country.  He only came here for me as well.  He was doing just fine in JA.  It's beautiful there and we both miss it.  Every country has its issues.  trump misled people alot.  His supporters don't seem to care or they don't want to admit it.

I can see why trump is on his third marriage.  As a person who married 2 immigrants and has four children with immigrant mothers you would think he would be a bit more tolerant and accepting of others.

I read a document Melania's lawyer submitted and it stated that she adjusted status to LPR (and eventually obtained citizenship) by sponsoring herself from a work visa.  Is that even possible?  That is my next item of research.

He's following through on  his campaign promises without hesitation. Why are people so shocked? I have no idea! Perhaps, no one is use to things getting done so quickly in government. We should be celebrating this, especially after the extremely lengthy process we have all been (or still) going through.

Show my one proof that he indeed to change the family based immigration. The only things I've heard about are: the wall (lol), work based visas and "muslim" ban. Show me the proof of his "promise" to change family visas and I'll admit that I'm wrong. Because there was no word about it in his official immigration manifest.

Also. The president who sign bunch of executive orders like crazy, few days after taking the office, is not a president. He's a dictator.

Here you go:

https://www.google.com/amp/www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-pol-trump-legal-immigration-20160901-snap-story,amp.html?client=safari

Also from his immigration speech:

To keep immigration levels measured by population share within historical norms. To select immigrants based on their likelihood of success in U.S. society and their ability to be financially self- sufficient.

We take anybody. Come on in, anybody. Just come on in. Not anymore.

You know, folks, it's called a two-way street. It is a two-way street, right? We need a system that serves our needs, not the needs of others. Remember, under a Trump administration it's called America first. Remember that.

To choose immigrants based on merit. Merit, skill, and proficiency. Doesn't that sound nice? And to establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first. And that in particular African-American and Latino workers who are being shut out in this process so unfairly.

Nope, nothing here directly referring to family visas.

It's mostly about work visas, really. Like when he said he wants to cut down those visas to offer those job positions for Americans first.

Also statements like this:

"We take anybody. Come on in, anybody. Just come on in. Not anymore. "

Just shows that Trump doesn't know that much about the immigration process. Not just ANYBODY can enter USA. Shouldn't be surprised here though, the dude isn't the brightest out there. :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with a new immigration system like other countries have. It's easy to get in the US compared to some other countries.

Doesn't have to be directly.  He didn't say anything about hem being work visas.  He said choosing immigrants on merit, skill and proficiency.  To me that certainly says that he could limit incoming immigrants in the family categories.

Well think about it.  If you petition your brother with a third grade education and he petitions his family, that is just anyone.  If you marry someone without an education that is too.   Not saying tos right but there's a sense of truth.

He said those things about work visas in his other statement about the immigration. So that's why I assume even here he was referring to that.

He directly mentioned work visas bunch of times. Never family visas.

As I said, it doesn't need to be direct.  Anyone who thought that he wasn't going to cut family immigration is clearly blind.  Of course he's not going to directly say it when he has family that were immigrants.
