This confirms my earlier conjecture in this thread that Trump voters, by and large, hate legal immigration almost as much as illegal immigration. So you can't really expect that Trump is going to maintain policies that allow legal immigration on the same scale as we've seen recently.

I'll say it again, Trump in 2020 is going to campaign hard to his base of supporters on a decrease in legal immigration. He can't get those numbers without severely curtailing some forms of immigration which are now legal.

If they want to cut down unskilled immigrants, get rid of the r1 visa.  My parents came on an r1 and it is one of the absolutely simplest visas to get if you have religious connections and presence.  You only need to have been with a religion for two years and you can come and even do menial jobs as long as you're participating in ministry somehow.  There is no educational requirement.

R1s can also AoS and become permanent residents.

It is actually a good thing. The siblings we are most interested in bringing are an engineer and a doctor.  Takes a huge burden off having to support others.   It should also speed up the real family timelines.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I don't know of many (if any?) developed countries who do allow this sort of thing it is baffling.

OK, so how does getting rid of those categories help NigeriaOrBust who posted as below.

Folks,

Recently, a bill named RAISE act introduced in congress

This bill proposes to reduce legal immigration to half of current levels ( 500k/annum from 1million/annum)

Its seems to specifically target non employment based (family based) immigration

  1. What are the chances of this bill getting approved in congress?
  2. Does it allow the LPRs to get family using FB-2A?
  3. If yes above, Does it impact FB-2A processing time lines?
    1. will it improve processing times? or make it worse and push processing times to 4-5 years from 2years?
  4. This wont allow parents of LPRs to apply for legal immigration - this might really tear families apart

members please share your thoughts, what you are hearing from your community

It appears to affect the f3,f4 categories only

I think this point might be a wasted avenue if you were thinking of protesting the law, as LPRs are not born in this country, they choose to come here.   One could attempt to argue it on different grounds, but I'm not really sure that there can be made a logical case for immigration of older relatives, especially with the cost of healthcare, etc.

Unless I misunderstood this.

If this will become a law, I'm going to be a heartbroken.

Once I become a citizen, I wanted to petition my parents. :( I can't imagine them being alone and old in the country far away.

Or does it only affects families of LPR?
