No, they could only work on campus. Not outside of it.

F-1 students may not work off-campus during the first academic year, but may accept on-campus employment subject to certain conditions and restrictions. After the first academic year, F-1 students may engage in three types of off-campus employment:

"This Executive Order, if signed, may add the following countries to the travel ban implemented on January 25th: Egypt, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Colombia, Venezuela, southern Philippines, trans-Sahara (Mali), and Sulu/Sulawesi Seas Littoral. We believe the new Executive Order may be published within the next two weeks," the law firm said.

I am not sure how much of this is true or purely based on rumors, but I googled this when I saw someone in a Philipines threads talking about the possible upcoming ban on SP.

At the moment it's still just hearsay, but several law firms from the US have given advice to multiple people (I saw two individuals from facebook stating this) advising them not to travel if they are from countries from the above mentioned list.  I don't know what really to believe as we never expected the current EO to happen, so I suppose anything is possible. But again, nothing official has been leaked, and I have not read anything from a journalistic source either.

Scary times indeed with all the current uncertainly of what may or may not soon befall us. My only recommendation to everyone not on the current list of banned countries, if you've been putting off applying for something, do it now. Procrastination time is over.

That headline is misleading.

 

plus the judge basically admits the president has a wide berth in who he can keep out.  

 

typical CNN ....   fast and loose with the facts.  

 

They could be intellectually honest and state what the real debate is in this matter.    

 

1. President having the ability to cut off immigration from whomever he deems as a problem.   

 

Or 

 

2. The more libertarian angle that the president can not pinpoint.   

 

Sounds like the judge in the article is admitting that #1 is the prevailing belief..... at least in her estimation.   

 

This is what happens when you spend the last 117 years giving power away from congress to the executive branch.
