Hi mimolicious....I brought the Moroccan over 10 years ago. We were married for 2.5 years, separated a lot of that time because of his abuse. I met my current husband not long after our divorce. It was just a social site where he was advertising his tourism business and just looking for clients. However, my ex and I had not lived together for a while. That's why I was not interested in another romance, especially with a foreigner. My hubby and I were friends for more more than 1.5 years before I even agreed to meet as friends. And you can bet I checked him out and have observed him in lots of difficult circumstances to see how he reacted.  We have been married 1.5 years, known each other for 6.5, with 7 visits. I will be leaving on my 8th this week. His family is happy that he is very happy. They asked to see wedding pictures...he showed them where we just had a simple service with the Imam. At our ages, we sure weren't going to have some big celebration. They really gave him no idea, other than that he thought they already had made up their minds that he is a "green card seeker." They talked about my divorces, the guy said, "So you are the 5th."  One guy said to him when he was leaving something like, "A US visa isn't everything," which he had no idea why he said that. In all, it was not a nice experience to say the least. My hubby was pretty much insulted because, to him, dignity and honesty are everything.

If all these red flags are discrimination, then how can they deny all these visas? Where does human rights come in? He really would just as soon I come there or move to another country that he can go to, but I need to work several more years. Which leads me to say why should I have to give up the life I have worked so hard for because one person in another country has their own opinion. If he was looking for a green card, he would have found somebody else long ago and not changed his life all around for me. It's just crazy. It will be interesting what reason they give. Another lady said their reason was that they "weren't legally married because a Christian can't marry a Muslim," which is not true.

Anyway, we won't give up. We truly love, care about, and enjoy being with each other. And it's not like we are young kids. It's just so sad really. The implied accusations that we are liars and cheats...it is just so horrifying. I may have lots of faults, but I am NOT a liar and neither is he.

Thanks, Renee. So are you going to get married? I don't know what else we can do. I am just afraid my health will one day not far in the future keep me from traveling there to see him. And, no, I can't retire right now. It is costing a fortune to go back and forth, etc. And I need the good health insurance we have.

Good luck to you also!

  • 2 weeks later...

I am seriously thinking about adding my husband's last name to mine asap. I"m wondering if it will mess up our CR1 visa...which is currently on its way back to NVC and Nebraska after a denial. Would that create a problem because the documents would be in my current name? Would everything have to be refiled to reflect my name change? All I need is to create another problem that would slow down our case...if that's humanly possible.

My second questions is really dumb, so sorry. If I change my name, of course I would have to send in my passport to reflect the change. I have my current 1-year Pakistan visa in my current passport. It looks like it is the type that is self-stick. In my old change of passports, nothing was transferred to the new one. How do they transfer my current Pakistan visa into a new passport? I don't want to screw anything up.

My husband would love for me to add his name to mine. I didn't want to go through all the paperwork changes when we got married, but I am reconsidering.Besides, he needs something positive, as he is sinking from the stress of this visa, working two jobs, and his mom in the hospital in very poor health. His health is really suffering, and I am worried about him.

I am planning to travel there the first week of October.

I changed my name to strengthen our case because we had some 'red flags'. I have no way to prove if it helped but I think it definitely added because our case went much smoother than I anticipated.

I'd definitely change my name if I were you. It certainly can't hurt at this point.

If there's a religious difference issue, can either of you convert to the other's religion? That might help too.

Hi again. I am still entertaining the thought of changing my name. BUT I have a few questions. Changing my name would make it possible for me to get a permanent type of visa/card so I wouldn't have to reapply for a Pak visa every year. I can expedite it and have it by the time of my next visit, the first two weeks in October.

HOWEVER,   If I change my name, will it create problems with our CR1? Would they make us refile since the name would be different from the original? My name would be different from all the paperwork. It's a big pain to change all that paperwork. That's why I haven't done it yet. I told him I would change it when he gets here, but that is looking far in the future now. I have a new Pak visa in my passport. How do they transfer that info to the new passport booklet?

PS--I have not gotten to visit this summer (so sad) because his mom is still in the hospital. Some asked why I don't go with him to his mom's village if she passes away. My husband tells me she lives very near the border of Afghanistan, and it is very dangerous there. He said I am not allowed to enter that area without special permission. We both feel it is too dangerous. The sad part is he used to take tour groups near there because it is very nice. But now, with all the terrorism and violence, that is not possible. Tourism has really been ruined by terrorism...so very sad.

Anyway, thanks for the info!
