Like above, employers technically can't ask your age; but when they get photo ID copies and such they see it anyways. Plus some paperwork for them will probably ask for a birth date on it also so.

Have they seen your resume/CV?   Does that have your educational attendance dates?  There are many ways to determine a person's age.  Also, there is likely a background check with probationary employment period where they can dismiss you.  It's likely to come out.  Why delay the inevitable?

to tag on the above responses, a lot of company, especially larger ones, do background checks and DOB is needed. In some industries, DOB's are needed for insurance purposes

These are the biggest reasons i can think of.

All of the above and also a company might consider it like you are trying to conceal something by not revealing it. I say this because they will more than likely run a background check on you and part of the requirements is your bio information.

Ages are important to future employers but only after the hiring (to avoid age discrimination). It varies from wages to insurance to 401k plans.
They will need your DOB for the I-9 though.

Im at a loss at why your age matters? They can't hire or fire you due to your age, noe can they ask you your age but your ID required for your I9 (and for whatever equivalent in Canada) will show your age.

I'm not aware of a way to get hired without in some way revealing your date of birth. If it's something you feel very strongly about, once you get hired you should make it clear to both the human resources department and your manager that you don't want it revealed to other employees or team members. Unless you specifically tell them not to it's possible it could be revealed in a newsletter that gives info on new employees, or monthly birthday celebrations your company may have.

I assume there have been "little lies" on OP's application, it's really the only reason I can think of.

@pumpernickle There is absolutely no way you can hide your DOB to an employer, as certain employment forms require it. Period.

You will never know until you try.

Don't some positions require an age check? I'm thinking of jobs in casinos at the game tables or selling alcohol either in a store or a bar? I'm not sure how it is in the USA but in the U.K. people under 18 cannot sell alcohol. Many teenagers work on grocery stores at weekends and have to call a supervisor to their register if a customer has alcohol in their basket.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

For those things they can ask if you are above a certain age. The legally cannot ask your age during the hiring process. But when you are hired they certainly can ask your date of birth. Many reasons; insurance, background check, identification of the employee, certain employer benefits are tied to age of employees, proof for the employer that they are not discriminating.
