It also depends on when you have your ceremony. I believe here in Denver they have 2 ceremonies per year, so if you missed the first one and you already interviewed and passed, you have to wait for the second one, which is what happened to me. I had to wait from July till October for my ceremony to be held and have the certificate in my hand.

It varies with everyone. Mine took 4 months from the date I sent it out to the day I got naturalized. Others have waited well over 6 months and some longer then a year. So the time frame is within a few months till a few years, that's about the closest estimate you'll get as there is no starndard time frame for it...

Just wanted to add a question to Meridith's initial question:

How long does it typically take from when you send the N-400 in until you are called for the first step, biometrics? Do they send you a set appointment time? I'm wondering because we're ready to send the paperwork but will be out of the country May 18-June 2, so i dont want my wife to get called for an appointment and miss it.

My husband's biometric letter was generated exactly one week after the receipt NOA, and the appointment was one month out.

While others around that time had the same experience, I wouldn't bank on it as a guarantee of the same thing for you.

Yeah the fingerprinting is done usually a few weeks after mialing in the N-400 since it's not actually run by the USCIS I don't believe, it has an actual proceedure. Unlike the USCIS which upon getting your N-400 and your FP status, it then proceeds to take a dart and throw it blindfolded at a 2 year calandar and that will your interview date...
