leaving blank areas on N400?

I was just reading through the instructions for N400 and I noticed that on the instructions it says to write N/A on questions that do not apply to me. There are some that do not apply to me such as different names, previous spouses etc. Do I really have to type N/A in those spaces? i tried to do it but i get an error saying that "/" is an invalid character...

I could be way overthinking it. there are questions such as the one where it asks how long was I gone from the country for and there are 4-5 lines and columns to fill out. Does that mean I need to write NA in every single one?
Can someone clarify this for me please?

Yes - N/A has to go in any box that you do not plan to fill - including the house number boxes ( the tiny ones) - when it comes to zero ( no kids) you would put None as the instructions say.

(As far as address, if you only have one for the past 5 years, that is ok. )

Reason is , when they receive it, they actually put it through a scanner - if a box is blank , the system will error out or will "drag" info from another box and mess up the data - then the agent will have to cancel the scan and start typing everything by hand - one person on here did not have a middle initial so she left it blank, on all her notifications she now has an N middle initial which just showed up - so now that is actually causing her issues because her id does not match the application -  

  • sending I130 05/16/2007
  • cheque is cashed on 06/11/2007
  • NOA1 in mail 06/13/2007 (who said 13 is badluck )
  • 07/30/2007 After no touches and no other signs we just got an email with the APPROVAL of I130....Thank God !....now what ?

  • 08/07/2007 Case received by NVC and case number assigned :))

  • 08/13/2007 DS3032 and AOS bill were generated

  • 08/14/2007 Emailed choice of agent ...i'm so curious when they will accept it...hopefully soon

  • 08/21/2007 DS3032 and AOS fee bill arive in mail

  • 08/27/2007 paid AOS fee bill
  • 8/28/2007 DS3032 choice of agent accepted
  • 9/3/2007 IV fee bill generated
