Nothing is that simple in politics.  When was the last time a Democrat held the Ga 6th??

I know you're trying to look at things from a positive Democrat side, but there's nothing positive here for the Dems. Handel now stands a far better shot at re-election in 2018 than she did here.

This is not really about the GA 6th.  50 million from both parties for one seat?

Exactly, it's an espoused referendum on Trump.

Problem is, no matter how the Democrats market this, they're coming out losers.. again. Any party's best shot at upending a district held by another party is when they have a new candidate. The Democrats' chances lessen dramatically if Handel seeks re-election in 2018. Wouldn't matter what party it is, that's how the House works. The only external factors would be if either Trump or Handel completely turn people off from the GOP. Entirely possible, but extremely unlikely.

I think the lame stream media is so unbelievable now, it has little effect on elections

It's about time, too. I hope it continues in 2018/2020 and beyond. MSM's dug it's own grave. I wished this happened when Ron Paul was running.

The Democrats actually won because the Russians hacked the election and the count is all wrong.... It's all the Russians fault not ours

-Democrats

This was a good win for Karen Handel and a upset against the Democratic Party. Do y'all remember right after the first election when he got 47.8% and the Democrats were saying "we got this, this election is ours come June". Now look what happened.

Probably ...the Carolina vote should be considered a victory in that there is no way any democrat should pull within 10 %

Looks like Ossoff might loose by 5 % which is not good.  Still Price took that seat by 20 % and it has been in the Republican hands for 4 decades

Checking for new results in 2 sec.

I read up on that race in SC and the Dems were really hoping for the Black Vote to turn out in order to help sway the election... The sad reality to that is a large part of the minority vote does not come out for special or mid-term elections.

Ok and????? This race was a straight up toss up because of no incumbent at all and this was supposedly a referendum on Trump. So Ossoff and the Democrats lost today. 0-4 MAGA.

Jon Ossoff may have won Georgia’s 6th District this past week

The Georgia 6th Congressional District special election to replace now-Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price was already looking like a referendum on President Trump. With millions of dollars pouring into the race on both sides, the contest between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel seemed tailor-made to measure the demographic shifts in wealthy suburbs and the staying power of the Trump message.

Quote

This vote, in the solid red south, pricks the bubble of Trump's magical invincibility. It cannot be overstated how attractive the prospect of being with a "winner" was to President Trump's base and how this begins to cloud that image. Although it is too far from 2018 to make predictions about what might be happening to that base, members of Congress who are Republican but not Trumpist may now start to feel less in awe of the President.

The House Freedom Caucus' goal-line stand in the Obamacare "repeal and replace" fiasco no doubt gave some confidence to Trump skeptics but there is nothing more likely to spur real Republican resistance to the White House than the fear of losing one's seat in 2018.

And Democrats are now likely to put a lot more money behind the dream of challenging the 47 seats that, according to the political analysis website 538, are even more flippable than the Georgia 6th. But the bigger Ossoff effect, whether he wins the runoff or not, may well be seen among Republicans in Washington.

Tuesday's outcome may ultimately make Trump madder than any episode of Saturday Night Live.
