I honestly don't know why all of a sudden everyone has a problem with the 'merit' of the threads. There are plenty of threads here which would make me roll my eyes, but for the most part, I just ignore them. Taking the mickey because some participate in March/April/June threads just seems pointless....if it's being enjoyed by people here...even just a small amount of people, what's is the actual problem?

People will connect with each other in different ways. Obviously it works for some, so as long as no T&Cs are being broken, what's the big dealio?

What's the difference between a "Scout" and an "Organizer"?

Thanks :)

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

No discussion of 'merit' - as I see it. Nor is it a 'big deal'.

In my opinion, it would just be good for as many people as possible to be able to find a topic as easily as possible.

The best - by far - way to do that is through the use of a good search engine.

Prereqs?

1. People have to spell properly.

2. They have to know how to use google (not just keyword based search but the advanced features as well).

3. The archives (where some of the best info is) needs to come back online so google/yahoo spiders can index it and make it searchable as well.

Yes, I know - never gonna happen.

Mags that wasn't solely directed at you....but the talk over these month threads has been going on for some time now, and whether or not everyone understands why ppl participate, conclusions shouldn't be drawn about the people who do. And tbh, the only b!tching about them I've seen is from organizers....other than that, they don't seem to be hurtin anyone

The overall sentiment is 'making things easier' for ppl to 'find stuff' but if we're so concerned over people's comfort levels on VJ and ease of use, I don't see why everything is all of a sudden such a big deal. I see it as shootin a mosquito with a 44 while blowing a hole thru the door. Sure, the pesky moquito's gone, but now ya got a hole in the door which is a much bigger nuisance.

As was discussed in a thread a few weeks ago I have taken a few members (I only needed 2-3) that have contributed to the site a great deal in the past and added a few extra features to help keep the site running well. The new title is just a way to recognise them. The only difference for the Scout vs. Organizer account is just that they can lock a thread if it gets too far out of control. When a thread is locked I am able to review at a later time as well. This is just a stop gap measure since I am not on the site all the time (need my sleep!) and I just needed a few members to catch any rare explosions during those times.

In the previous thread that discussed this everyone agreed that having a couple people to watch out for the rare occations where something like a "spammer" might hit the site, something else crazy happens, was good because it would prevent hours upon hours of stuff happening until I saw it and could deal with it. As I said, this way certain things can be cought earlier and I can review them later if needed. In any case I really appreciate everyones help and I think that once we can nail down a solid moving guide things will be in much better shape moving forward!

jenn3539,

Can you be more specific as to where you'd like to see this sentence posted?

The title of the moved thread remains in the forum where the thread was originally located, and clicking on that title takes the reader to the thread in its' new location where the Mover felt that the thread fit better. Is that not explicit enough?

Yodrak

Do you think it would help if when moving a thread, the mover posted "This topic has been moved to the _____ forum" as an explicit reminder of where the question should have been posted?

I was thinking as a post within the thread, so that the OP when reading the responses will see where the thread was moved to. Sure, to me the way that it's currently done seems obvious enough, but maybe some aren't noting for future reference where their threads were moved to. Maybe by putting it right as a post within the thread will force them to take note?

I was thinking perhaps as a note beside the title of the thread *Moved to Off Topic Forum*

Of course it's explicit for the person that wrote the post, but it would at least give those of us wading through them some idea what they were about without clicking on each of them and going to half the forums on the site. Many times the title of "PLZ HLP" isn't descriptive enough to know where it's going to be moved to.
