My fiancé's k1 visa was approved at the Lima, Peru consulate on Friday, June 16. We have been SO excited ever since, making plans for him to arrive back to the US in a few weeks.

Now, today (6/19), my fiancé got an email from the consulate asking him to come back for a new interview. What could this be about?! Has this ever happened to anyone here? We both have clean records, and he's never been in the US illegally. We can't think of anything that could have triggered any sort of red flag.

I am SO upset and freaking out about this. It seems like such a cruel joke to approve someone's visa and then take it back. They should really tell you there's a chance that your initial approval will be mean absolutely nothing! At least then we would have waited to breathe a sigh of relief!!!!

Maybe it's something super small and insignificant, or maybe they had a question to ask him about something. I've honestly no idea as I'm not experienced with this, hopefully the more experienced members will chime in, but before you worry too much maybe it's not a big deal. Good luck! Kind of a bad time to run into this problem when you think you're basically finished with the K1 process :(

Thank you for the reassuring words, useful89! I'm hoping it is just something small. He said that the interview was SUPER quick, so maybe they did just forget something they needed to do.

We are a very legitimate couple with nothing shady in either of our backgrounds that would raise a red flag. We are both just absolutely stumped.

You're exactly right though--it is very frustrating to be dealing with this when we were celebrating being approved! We thought we were finally done with this part of the process

It is a rare thing to be denied as long as the relationship is bona fide and you have submitted all required documents. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it's rare. So try not to worry (although if it were me I wouldn't be able to sleep lol), I'm sure it's just a slight delay. Please let us know though what it was, my fiancee and I just submitted our stuff so I'd like to know what to possibly expect along the way, and I've not read much about people being approved then needing a second interview.
