AOS interview can we ask I-551 stamp?

Hello all,

I and my wife finally get scheduled for marriage based interview in Chicago USCIS field office, which is awesome.

But my current EAD card will expires soon and the interview is scheduled within 10 days after the expiration date while my employer is still interested in working with me.

Given consideration, can I ask immigration officers for I-551 stamp upon successful completion of AOS interview so I can start to work right after the day of the interview?

We live in the country of free speech, so I can perhaps ask immigration officer to stamp I-551, but my concern is this may bring some red flags from them, and I do not want to take any risk.

My understanding is that it depends on local office: some USCIS local offices can do while others don't as well as it depends on immigration officers.

So, taking this into account, then can I visit Chicago local office next day in person, if AOS is approved, for I-551 stamp?

I have to admit that making a appointment through infopass is a formal way to do so, but Chicago USCIS office infopass is notoriously long waited for infopass, around 1-2 weeks from the date that I can make appointment.

or I can actually wait for couple of hours in USCIS office until I get approved message if AOS interview goes smooth and just ask them on desk?

Does someone have any similar experiences? or recommendations?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Have you already filed for renewal of your EAD? If so, USCIS automatically gives you an extension for expiring EAD cards if you have a pending I-485:

The problem with AOS interviews is that often times even after a successful interview, the IO does not approve on the spot, and only approves several days after. If you ask for an I-551 stamp if the IO office has not officially approved your case, you put your application at risk.

You should apply for a renewal now. Your receipt notice will  automatically extend your EAD for 180 while you wait for your interview. That way you will have no gap in employment. Renewal is free with pending i-485 therefore apart from time spent filing form, 2 passport pictures and mailing, it costs you nothing.
