On yesterday, I called the NVC because I was becoming impatient with them not contacting me in a reasonable amount of time after receiving NOA2.  Sure 'nuff, I'm glad I did because they had assigned a NVC Case and Invoice number 3 days ago and neither I nor my fiance have received any type of notice.  With that being said, I went to the NVC website and started reading up  Here's where I get confused and have questions.....

As many entries that I've read when couples get to this point in the process, I never saw anyone mention this, "Please complete Steps 1-6 below to complete pre-processing of your immigrant visa application. These steps are necessary before NVC can schedule your visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate overseas."  This came directly from the NVC website.  So we've paid $535 for the petition.  Now we have to choose an agent and pay another fee?  I feel lost...did I miss something?

Then, under the "choose and agent" link, it says, "Please allow up to 3 weeks for the NVC to process your DS-261 before continuing to the next step."  What DS-261?  We never completed that form....?  I feel sooooo lost.  I don't want to miss anything because, as you all know, we have do do everything by a certain date or the NOA2 will expire.

Help?

You always have to call NVC to get your case number, that shouldn't be a surprise. You should get a letter from NVC at one point but it usually takes many weeks. Many people never get the letter at all.

And for your other concern: as you can see in the text you quoted it says "immigrant visa application", and the K-1 is NOT an immigrant visa. So that info, including the DS-260/261, has nothing to do with your petition or K-1.

Thank you!!

I did find out that we have to complete the DS-160.  So we're working on that now...

Thanks again!

Thanks again!

My fiance and I have completed and submitted the DS-160, but we are having the hardest time ever trying to pay for it.  I called the US Embassy 5 times today and got a different answer each time.  However, ffor sure, the DS-160 is STILL not paid.  Can someone help gear me towards their experience and how you paid for the DS-160. We are very interested in how it can be done electronically so that we can move forward with scheduling his interview.

BTW, we did get a bit of good news:  the packet left the NVC on yesterday!  Woooo hooooo!!!

God, this is VERY frustrating.  I'm trying to be patient, but I feel like if I'm not proactive in this process, I'll miss something and we'll miss something.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I'm taking a break now...I've been at it since a little after 12pm CST.

No wonder you can't pay for it since there's no fee for the DS-160. There is an visa fee though but the payment options for that one varies from country to country. I just used my debit card.

You're right, there is no DS-160 fee, but there is a $160 fee that must be paid after you submit it.  Everything on the US Consulate for the Bahamas says so, but not one place can tell me where, how, and whether they take debit/credit cards.  So frustrating!

Last week, my fiance said he paid it when he took his son for his B1/B2 Visa interview.  I'm thinking that's going to be the method of payment this time.  We just didn't want it to hold up any process that's why we tried to pay it now.

But thank you very much for your input.

Are you sure the $160 fee is for the K-1 and not immigrant visas? From what I can remenber I paid more than that for my visa, I think it was $265 or so.

See this is part of the problem I'm having.  No one in the Bahamas can give me a direct answer.  The website says complete the DS160, register at this website, pay the fee, then schedule an appt for an interview.  I can't get on the website nor pay the fee.  I call and they said the exact same thing...but it's not working.   One of the Customer Reps walked through the process with me, then told me a K visa is an immigration visa, but the application says its a nonimmigration visa...ugh!  There are no immigration visas out of the Bahamas.

I gave up. I'm going to try again tomorrow. But came here first to see if I could get some pointers specifically from someone who's gone through the process in the Bahamas.

Please don't take my anger personally, just frustrated at this process.

Thanks!

Is it just a technical issue with the website then or what happens when you try to go to the website? If it's just technical then you can report i so they can fix it. And when you do make it you should pay $265 and not $160, wrong fee could cause more delay.

I wish it were as easy as a tech issue.

The US Consolute in the Bahamas told me to go to this website:  https://ais.usvisa-info.com/ to make a payment and schedule an interview appt.

I went there and tried to register as a "Temporary Visas" since that's what a K-1 is - a nonimmigrant applicant.  Get to the place where it says type of visa and K-1 is not listed.  So then, the customer service rep says try the "Permanent Visas", but was cut off because the Bahamas doesn't give those type of visas.

Vicious circle and I'm stuck in the middle.
