Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.  I am not sure about using a translation website,  and my advice would be to use a sworn translator in Tunisia.  There are many there that can translate from English into French or Arabic.  You are going to have to get several things translated for the entire process,  and having official translations with the translator's sworn stamp is a very good thing.  The translations are not very expensive,  but give yourself a few days to get it done.  Make sure that the birth certificate is new before you leave the US,  because the Tunisian government will ask for a birth certificate that is not more than 21 days old.  And make sure to take an appointment with the us embassy to take Affidavit for the capacity to marry, good luck

Get a new birth certificate just days before you leave to marry in Tunisia and that's enough for you to translate but after marriage there's other papers to translate after marriage for the process

Ok...the entire caps post makes me want to say....CALM DOWN......

You are going to marry someone in Tunisia and you are 21. You can have all of your information translated here  (by an accredited translator  (I would not trust BABEL)....a local university will be able to point you in the right direction. Take a certified copy with you  (the one with the raised stamp).

Have you met your fiance before?  Have you been to Tunisia?  Why is he not inquiring about these legalities in Tunisia?

@I&A/T Thank you so much

@janet3 No I have not met him in person yet and I have not been to Tunisia it will be my first time going there. Were both asking questions about the whole process thank you.

I would like to add....

I am very happy you and your fiance. Being your age and in love is a magical experience. And I wish you every happiness....

I would also like to add that a certain knowledge comes from age and life experience and I would like to share a bit with you....I am 45 and my fiance is a 40 year old Algerian. Neither of us have been married before. Both he and I are well educated  (we are both in the education field) and we have an incredible amount in common...we like history and art and museums and nature and home improvement and learning....the list is actually fairly long (you get the point I'm sure). I learned every bit of that from him....and most of it from what he told me online. I think my fiance is a wonderful and incredible man. And I love him very much. He is, however, from a completely different culture than I am (and we actually have the same religious beliefs....none). Life is different in Algeria than it is in Arkansas. Life is different in California than it is in Tunisia.

What I recommend is when you go to Tunisia...spend some time there getting to know more about him (and not worry about the legalities of getting married). As many people on this forum will tell you - getting married in another country  (especially with cultural and religious requirements) is in no way an easy or quick event.....and if you decide to live in the US after getting married the process takes 12 to 14 months....

@janet3 Thank you. I am very aware of the cultural differences, I will meet him halfway through it all. He is also willing to do the same for me. I will learn his culture and the way things work in Tunisia. I do plan on staying there, I'm not gonna lie its very scary for me. I will be leaving behind the life that I am used to and will have to adjust to another life style over there. I wanna be able to figure this out for myself and for my fiancé and I. Marriage is a big thing I know that, it is a sacred union of two people. It may sound crazy to others especially with my age range. I understand the concern and I am in no way not acknowledging the concern. I highly appreciate it. Thank you.

We may sound stupid now and i do wish you good luck but please can you keep emergency contacts of US embassy, have a secret phone with working sim card, arrange to text a friend everyday and if they dont hear from you an alert goes out.

Most people round up a lot of these basics on a first date.  You have never met this person and he is in another country far away from yours, diff language, diff culture, lots of stuff.  The risk is EXTREMELY high.  Please don't take this wrongly but it seems you were not even aware of basic internet etiquette.  I am 40 and when i first got on the net (in the dark ages!  I was 16) i Knew this basic stuff - worries me about your limited exposure.

how can you be someone's fiance when you havent met even?  Even the medival times the couple met in engagement day.  Please step out of where you are and tell me how you would react if this was your friend's story.

Are your parents aware?  Were they abusive?  Something is a miss - dont just go!  There's enough stories on here you will find that if fake at best its a way of obtaining a green card .. worse could happen.

Oh yeah....

I agree with @Auds completely!

The first time I met my fiance was in Germany  (not Algeria). I reserved a hotel room in case things weren't on the up and up. I was meeting a stranger half way around the world  (my sister and I were in Prague and I traveled to Germany). Everyone I know knew everything  (where I was going, travel details....in fact, I had made a file with a copy of his passport and drivers license and biological details....plus updated photos of myself). Auds has a great point. Always assume the worst and hope for the best.

Please confirm you have read this.  Keep my contacts if you have no one, i can PM you - but i will need full details.

i too travelled half way around the world and came to the US to meet my now hubby.

we come from similar cultures and i was on his facebook, had spoken to his parents, his sis and seen enough family and friends, he has kids, i did internet searches.  He is American so enough information online and YET, i had a friend who fortunately is also in Florida as a back up who had full details and called to check on me.

and i wasnt flying to marry although i was sure in my heart even before meeting him that this was it (and this is with a lot of life experience).  We met another 7 times before the wedding + 4 to 6 hours on skype everyday.

the person you are married to is the biggest influence in ones quality of life.  To this date i plead forgiveness of my daughters for bringing them into this world with their horrible father (my ex).

the course of their lives has changed because of who their father is.  The mental abuse will in effect, affect their children eventually, their future families.  One wrong decision generations will pay for.

You have your life ahead of you - PM me for any help, i can try help with background check even.  I have Tunisian friends.
