Can I fly to Mexico with Green Card and expired Canadadian passport?

Hello everyone.

I am a Canadian citizen with a Green card. I'd like to vacation in Mexico. Is the Green Card enough to travel as my Canadian passport is expired?

Or will I need to renew my Canadian passport before going to Mexico?

You need to renew your passport, unlike before you can go to Mexico using your GC and without a passport.

Better renew that passport.

There are really two questions here. First, will the Mexican authorities allow you into Mexico, and second, will the US authorities allow you back into the US. I don't know about the first question, but to come to the US, you need a valid passport and your Green Card.

By Air - ALL persons*, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda are required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document.

From The CBP FAQ answer to "What documents does a foreign national or Green Card holder need to enter the US". The answer goes on to say you need your green card or other evidence of LPR status in addition to your passport.

I find 2 answers Your Green-Card (I-551) is all that is needed to travel to Mexico, according to US Dept Of State.

Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

But other source indicates that a valid passport is recommended, though other IDs are acceptable, so the I-551 should be OK in place of the passport.

As posted, the issue is not in regard to entering Mexico without a passport as much as it is returning to the US. Forget the Mexico issue for a moment - you won't get back into the US without a passport so renew yours.
