My husband is in the residency process.  He is currently in the US, and we are applying for an adjustment of status so he can stay here to wait out the residency process.  We have his packet for the AOS almost ready to send in.  We have a couple business in Honduras, and we would like him to be able to go back and check on those, so we are planning to file an I-131 so he can leave the country to check in on the businesses, and then return again.  My question is - how exact do we need to be with his arrival and departure dates?  Do we need to decide everything now (which means we'd need to buy the ticket now, to ensure those travel dates)?  When the Advance Parole document is issued, will it be for exact dates, or a range of dates.

Also, say we send in his packet on Monday - how long should we expect it will take to receive the Advance Parole document back?  I.e., we would like him to go back to Honduras and check on the businesses as soon as possible, but how long should we expect to have to wait until he has the proper paperwork to be able to leave?

And finally, since i'm asking questions - is the Advanced Parole document a one time use only document?  If we want him to go to Honduras once in the fall and once later in the winter, should we file two forms now?

Thank you!

Rachel

No dates are needed or anything. A lot of people don't plan to use it but just want to have it incase (us for instance).

Ours took almost 90 days exact for EAD/AP card; but it has been taking 90-120 days lately it seems.

Thank you all for the answers!  It seems that the AP document will give him the ability to come and go multiple times.  But does he need to confine himself to only work and emergency trips (which are the reasons given on the I-131 instructions as valid reasons to apply)?  I.e., if he gets the document and then we just go on vacation for a couple weeks, will he have problems getting back in?

HELLO BEN&ZIAN:

So I am assuming you file for this AP card when you send out your paperwork for adjustment of status (I-485) , right?

Also, did you pay for AP card? I was reading that because you pay for adjustment of status ,you dont have to pay for AP?

I am filing for my parents (I-130 &  I-485); they are currently in NY with me . Fingerprints were done already and now we are just waiting. Paperwork was filed back in May 5th. I am just thinking if I should file NOW form I-131 so they can travel home to close their business and finalizes some paperwork that was not done when they came. But as per your comment, it might take around 90-120 days to get card?

Also, do you think it would be OK to be OUTSIDE OF USA for about 4 months??? In my country (Peru) things move very slow; my parents would like to have their check ups and all of that done before coming back but appointments take weeks and thats week I am thinking about 4 months.

I have heard type of applications I submitted normally take about 1 year so they will be OK as long as they are back to NY before May 2018!!!

Any comments are very much appreciated!

Thank you!
