Bill Gates also used to allegedly say(he denies it now) 640K is going to be enough for everything you're going to need on your computer. Now it's not even enough for pictures.

Just read the article. Another global warming cult member. That explains the ridiculous assertion that humans will be extinct in 10 years. I doubt this guy really believes this nonsense. Probably invested in one of the carbon trading ponzi schemes and that is why he is fear mongering.

I wonder what the big clean energy breakthrough will be?  Even with solar, PVs and OPVs require manufacturing and fabrication.

Yes but a solar panel becomes a capital asset with a 30 year lifespan. After 10 years in the SW you have made your money back and the electricity is all gravy .

But to make these panels and the storage systems needed for the energy you still need to tear up the earth and pump oil.  To the user it may be clean, but the amount of damage done during fabrication is about the same.

If you knew anything of long term assets like this, you'd know they depreciate over time (in accounting this is called Accumulated Depreciation, a contra-asset account), and incur costs themselves to maintain.

Who implied I did not understand economic, accounting or engineering definitions of assets and depricitation? You don't need a PhD in GAAP to understand the concept of an asset. But do tell..

You proved that one wrong. By the end of the lifespan of that asset it has practically no residual value, the cost of maintaining it overtakes the value of the asset itself makes it become a total loss, requiring the re-purchase of an asset.

It's a wonderful theory that it pays you back the money you invested, but it doesn't, it's a permanent expense that loses value and requires more investment to maintain, ultimately having to pay for the investment all over again. What's far better is either completely going off the grid, or learning better ways to utilize grid time.

This kind of thing separates us, those who know how to use their money, versus those that prefer to use others' money.
