Recipients name must be on mail box or some mail carriers will not deliver anything from USCIS !

we put both of our names on the

mailbox.

Thanks, but not the issue. Both my wife and I receive mail at our box. She received her NOA2 approval letters at the same address back in April, they simply mishandled the card.

Yes, we spoke to a Tier 2 officer, on Monday, they finally gave us a tracking number after the original inquiry when we were told there was no tracking available. Unfortunately a tracking number now does us no good now, as the letter was delivered apparently two months ago. We do have the app, but unfortunately did not at the time. I'm waiting now for a reply back from our Senator. Frankly, I find it insulting they insinuated we should file and pay them again for an error on the USPS/USCIS's part. Why USCIS would send out a card without requiring signature confirmation for receiving is asinine. Even our local post office said the same.

That's one of the most f*cked up things I've noticed with America since I moved here, they just send all kinds of identification cards in the mail like it was just some random advertisement not worth a sh*t (anything from state ID and driver's license to work permits and actual greencards!). In Sweden they would have you come pick something so important up at your local post office and you would have to show ID for verification (they would never do signature as anyone could sign that thing if they just happened to be at/in front of your house at the time).

My guess with USCIS might be that they earn so much money from cards go missing so they wqnt to keep it the way it is. Take a greencard for example, it's insured up to $100 so I assume that's the money they get from the post department if the card goes missing? And if the applicant has to file for a replacement card that would cost $450-500. So I assume it's a win-win for USCIS seeing as it hardly costs them anything to make a new card.

You idea is superb, but most time they just seems to be in hurry and don't look up. I had my name boldly written with apartment number, they still misplaced my first OPT card. I have to reapply for  a replacement card. Until i signed up for notification and ask all mails be held for pick up.

Yes, human error again here. Sometimes you can stand on your head and catch flies with your behind and things still go wrong no

matter how hard you try. Putting names on mail boxes does reduce the error for some people so we do all we can do.

Thanks, I do appreciate your advice, but we can't actually put our names on the physical box itself. Our apartment complex's cluster box isn't constructed in such a way that that is possible. All of them are simply marked by the corresponding apartment letter. Secondly, we actually still get mail from about the last 5 residents of the apartment, so I don't believe our carrier has any issues with the name on the envelope. Unfortunately I think it's more likely they misplaced our letter with a similar looking letter of another apartment. Had we known several months ago, at least we could have checked directly with the post office at the time and tried to recover it. Again, the USCIS telling us there was no tracking available until two months after the fact basically rendered any benefit of a tracking number moot.

Since I couldn't work the first few months after I moved here, and then later started working from home, I just made sure to become friends with the mailman (I had the time for it).  Now, 8 months later, I know the main mailman very well, he's awesome! And I know the fill-in mailmen as well, this way it might be a bigger chance of actually receiving the mail correctly. Now they all know that I'm the wife and that I live on this address, we do share the same surname as well so that might help, not sure. I'm also on very friendly terms with the people working down at the post office since I drop off packages more or less everyday.

I must say I'm very, very happy with the mail service in our area, all the employees are hard-working and do their job very well. Even the substitutes are really good usually. I know far from all Americans are this lucky with the mail serivce.

Update:

So we heard back today via letter from our Senator. They informed us of exactly what we already know, and what we've told them. That the tracking number shows our card was delivered. Obviously it wasn't or we wouldn't have been pestering people for the last two months trying to find out where it is. So disappointed right now. Absolutely ridiculous the card isn't sent via certified mail. No way will I pay them again for failing us the first time, so I suppose we're stuck now hoping to eventually get the actual green card.

We also suffered from a decision based on non-delivery and, consequently, non-reply to a request. As is mentioned often at this forum, the USPS will consider non-return of a letter as proof that a letter was delivered correctly (never mind that you have $1000 or more invested in this application, they won't pay the extra 25 cents to get a signature).

Well, my advice is that getttig angry and complaining here won't help, but will wear you down. Eventually you will choose a path to getting what you need.

I, too, contacted my senator and, though the office was prompt and professional, I found that they did nothing more than I did and got the same reply I did .... just telling me what I already had been told, which was very little.

In defense of your mail service, your local carrier does not sort the mail, it is auto sorted elsewhere. But, he/she does have responsibility to put it in the right box. Somewhat analogously, the staff at your USCIS office does not make the rules or procedures - they just follow them.

You would think that because we pay for this service (not tax-payer funded) we would get prompt and perfect service. Obviously not, and neither is everything poorly done. I know that in the case of the I-290B appeal, the ombudsman' office did review the process and recommended and instituted changes a few years ago so that the process is much smarter and speedier. Maybe the I-485 and AOS will receive a similar overhaul someday.

Wishing all who are stuck in a snafu luck and speed ... or a green card.

  • 2 weeks later...

Same thing happen to me.

On December 8th USCIS received the documents we sent them and we got our NOA 1 on January 15th. After that they sent us the fingerprints appointment for Feb. 8th. After a looooong wait and dozens of calls to USCIS we got the approval notice on May 3rd BUT haven't got the EAD card yet. We called USCIS on May 30th and they said they got 60 days to send the card after the approval notice so we had to wait; so we wait but we got nothing. Yesterday we called again and they told us that the there wasn't a tracking number for the card so technically the card was never produced. I already filled a inquiry about the case being out of the processing time on July 3rd but no response yet, we are supposed to received a response by July 25th. I m just so sick and tired of this whole process and nonsense waiting I just hope we can get our card soon. Oh, and we still haven't heard anything from the green card yet

By the way, I got here with a K1 visa.
