Now when the time comes for my wife's interview do I need a letter to get into the embassy that tells me I can go or will likely be in the email they send me and my wife when the case is closed? I just want to be sure.

You, as the petitioner, aren't required to attend the interview so there will most likely not be anything in the interview letter about that. Once you get the interview letter, call the Embassy and ask them if you can attend, too, I heard some Embassies don't allow anyone other than the beneficiary to attend.

Could I get a expedite request or do I have to have a reason?

You don't need permission to go to the American consulate in HCMC. You're an American citizen - it's your consulate. Your wife needs the paperwork and letter they sent her - that's it. If you are trying to expedite, my advice is to keep watching the consulate calendar and see if someone cancels. That's what we did, and we were able to get a much-earlier appointment. You should definitely attend the interview. Regardless of what some people say on this site, I know it makes a difference. In my case, the officer needed some clarification on divorce and financial records. I was able to explain the paperwork and that was it - we received the visa. Plus, the atmosphere at the Saigon consulate is crazy - just witnessing the madness is worth the trip. :)
