Hi,

My mother in law has been granted a tourist visa from Philippines. We are going to buy her ticket for her. I read the guide and it seems she'll get an I-94 form at her port of entry. This will tell us how long she can stay.

How do people usually handle this? We aren't able to buy a round trip ticket because we don't know when she has to return.

Will this cause problems at port of entry since her ticket won't be round trip? If we buy a round trip how long should we expect that she'll (usually) be allowed to stay?

Thanks

I have this same dilemma as I want to go back to the philippines for my fiances Embassy Interview, but not sure how long it will take for her to get her documents to travel back to the states with me..

Do you know if your fiance has already completed the CFO process, and where is she going to pick up the visa? If she waits for the visa to get to her it could take 1-2 weeks after the interview if she is approved, but only several days if she picks it up in Manila. Also she will have to complete the CFO before she is allowed to leave the Philippines.

We havent even got to that part of the process yet. Yes, I understand about CFO part.. How would she/we go about getting the Visa in Manila instead of waiting?

At the interview that is the last step of everything on where you want the package delivered. She could opt to pick it up at a 2go location in Manila it is all up to you.

Not a problem. I would suggest going to the interview with your fiance at USEM because it does help. I went with my then fiance now wife and we had no problem what so ever with the interviewer. The CO and I talked longer than he talked to my wife, basically we were just chit chatting and it was great. We then went on a trip to Cebu after the interview and she received the packet about 1-2 weeks later. It took longer because she lives up in the mountains in Mindanao so 2go only goes there if they have enough packets to make the trip worthwhile. So my wife waited 2 days after they called to confirm the address/town and she went to Tagum City to pick it up.

No issue buying a one way ticket, as long as you buy a ticket for onward travel (commonly called a "throw away"), you can find cheap flights from the Philippines to Singapore, Hong Kong or such for $100 or less.  When you get to the ticket counter to check-in for you flight (in the USA) they will question you about the one way ticket, just show them the onward travel ticket and all  is good.

This is a very common practice.

When I flew over for the interview I arrived a few days before the interview, then stayed for two months.  We goofed off for most of the two months.

Get an open-dated flight ticket.

Unlike a regular return ticket, an open-ended airline ticket sends you to a destination on a specific date, with a flexible return date -- usually within one year of your departure date. Although the ticket may be more expensive than a set return or one-way ticket, many airlines offer this flexible option.  (http://traveltips.usatoday.com/buy-open-ended-airline-ticket-100041.html)

Spent about a week in Manila, interview, medical, CFO and sight seeing. When it came time for the interview The US CO introduced himself, asked if I was the fiance and I replied in the affirmative and then he kindly asked me to take a seat in the waiting area.  I watched with excitement as my future family took the oath and begin their interview.  View questions were asked and exchanges made and 5 minutes later they were approved and we were heading to celebrate a long and stressful week. Flew back to Cebu and had a grand old time. If you can make it to the interview I suggest going.  It's remarkable sight both from the awe of how many get processed in one day to the actual personal interview that takes place for your love one(s).  The Embassy is unbelievable.

Much cheaper to buy a flight through Cebu Pacific to Taiwan, Singapore or such as you continuing flight, make sure that leaves within 30 days of arriving in the Phils.     Present the one-way and the "throw away" at the U.S. ticket counter and the immigration counter at NAIA   that will satisfy the continued flight issue.
