Form DS-5535 'SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS FOR VISA APPLICANTS'

Hi guys,

So I have applied from Ireland for a B1 visa. The VO said that my visa has been approved. However, they contacted me few days after saying I need to fill the DS-5535?

I'm confused. It has been approved, then this form? Any of you got approved on the day of the interview then got emailed to fill this form?

Interview Date: 29th Mar [VO said visa approved and took the passport]

Embassy emailed: 3th Apr [Fill DS 5535]

Thanks!

That sounds about right.

Who are you, where are you from and where have you traveled? That's generally why someone gets the 5535 or at least the supplementary questions. (You don't need to answer that publicly! 🙄 )

Do you have any clue why the VO said it has been approved on the day of the interview, and I will get my passport in 4 to 5 days, then the 5535 happens? :|

Just wondering if that happened to any of you guys..

Yes that has happened to a lot of people. Some even got it weeks or months after the interview.

Go back to my original question about you. That's why they give it to people.

l work for Apple, and I need to go to the mothership HQ in Cupertino.

My business trip is from April 9th to June 29. Then I go back to Apple European HQ where I actually work.

After I come back from the US, I have planned holidays with my partner to go to Spain.

Now you are telling me that I need to wait 7 months without my. That means, I will miss my holidays in Spain!

If that's the case, then I don't want the US visa, I prefer to have my passport with me. I'm only going to the US for business, not as tourist. (FYI, I have been to the States before where I studied there and left the country on time)

Welcome to our world. The world of uncertainty shrouded in paranoia.

Everyone's case is different.

I repeat.

Everyone's case is different.

For some people this security check lasts only a few days or weeks. For others it's a few months or...

Like I said, where you're from or where you've visited is important.

You might be cleared tomorrow or in a couple weeks or it might drag out. What you do now is a decision you'll have to make with your boss. Since you have through June for the trip you might want to wait for a bit. Again we don't know your specifics besides the fact that you are coming for business.

Having a history of law abiding visits doesn't seem to make much difference. It certainly didn't for us.

Thank you for your reply.

I honesty don't see the point of keeping my passport longer than my planned business trip. If they think this will take months, then just mention that in the interview instead of saying "Approved and will get it back in 4 working days", so I can move on with my life. Now I need to worry about the fact that I might need to cancel flight tickets to Spain and Porto for my planed holidays in July.

I'm originally from Iraq, but then I haven't been to that country for years now. It's just annoying to keep the passport for so long. I just wish if they say, it's gonna take 5 months, and your business trip is planned until June, so maybe you want to reconsider your application. I would have said, OK, give me my passport back, thank you!

What a waste of time...

Now it shows I'm under AP - last update was April 3rd when the emailed me to fill the 5535 form. I filled the form and sent it back, today they came back saying "thank you, your application is under review".

This is just so sad!!

Like I said ...

Decide on a date on which you will cancel the US trip.

Then you'll have your passport and can travel wherever you want.

((Except to the US, of course 😉😎🙊))

Hope you have better luck than we have!

Thanks for being optimistic. I really want to ask what is "shortly" but I know there is no answer for that...

It is indeed B1/B2, but it was stated in the interview that I'm going on a business trip where all my expenses will be covered by my employer. It's just funny that they didn't even ask to see the invitation letter during the interview, yet it has been approved.

I have seen that security clearances for B1/B2 get finished soon in two to three weeks. Hopefully yours get finished soon and you get your visa as well. Secondly, yes its up to visa officer's mood, if he is in a good mood he never checks anything and approves your visa otherwise he pokes his nose in every other thing. So don't worry. Everything will be good at your side. I m from Pakistan and waiting since 7 months. Life is getting too tough. My mother is in USA and i have not met her since 5 years. I want you to pray for me.. Who knows whose prayer will be heard.
