My husband had his interview this morning and because of the travel ban he was refused and given ds-5535. I had typed up a Word document with all our answers- do you think we can just submit that or that I need to transfer to the actual ds-5535.

If we should put in the actual form is there a pdf that allows us to type in the information or do most people write it out by hand???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

When we were given that form, the embassy had emailed it as a non-fillable PDF attachment, but asked us to fill out and send back to them in Word format.  I ended up just re-typing their form in Word and filled in my answers as I went. They certainly don't make these extra steps convenient.

I-129F Sent: 12/29/17

I-129F NOA 1: 1/4/18

I-129F NOA 2: 7/9/18

NVC Received: 7/18/18

Consulate Received: 8/9/18

Packet 3 Received: 8/13/18

Interview Date: 9/20/18

Interview Result: Administrative Processing

*Visitor's visa interview: December 2016, called back by embassy for second interview on same visa application in January 2019 - visitor's visa finally issued May 2019.

*Fiance visa placed in administrative processing September 2018.

*Beneficiary's Country: Norway via Iran.

I used Adobe Fill & Sign.

I think your thinking is on the right path.

Thank you- I used the adobe fill. It is so ridiculous that they don’t have it as an actual fillable form.

If you got DS-5535 via e-mail then just reply it in the same format and type your answers. Also don't  reply today, give at least two days gap b/w interview and e-mail(reply), because then you will see an update on your case when embassy read your email(DS-5535). This give you peace of mind that they actually received your e-mail (DS-5535).

If you received DS-5535 hard copy then disregard above advice.

Thank you for the advice- they gave him a paper copy but told him to email them.  So I did the adobe fill and then a word document with additional information. Plan to send tomorrow.

Yes it is so crazy- awful directions and not providing fillable forms. It really is sad that they treat people this way.

I hope I am wrong, but

is it possible the Ds-5535 is just a "Backdoor Ban"?

Since its introduction, I have monitored websites from Fb pages to VisaJourney.

Only a hand full of cases have received Visas after submitting the form.

Is it possible only a single digit percentage of applicants get thru? only to show the form is not a "Backdoor Ban"?

Again, I hope I am wrong, but numbers are not encouraging. Also, there is Zero Transparency about this Ds form.

Please correct me and for the third time, I hope I am wrong that this might be just a Ban in this mysterious Ds-5535.

When you did receive the forum?

December 2018. But, I have been monitoring the progress or lack of progress of the Ds-5535 form.

Mainly because my wife and I expected this dreadful form; She is from Fez, an imperial city that has not been liked lately.

Honestly, I am not sure what to do because I can not move there, and obviously she can not move here. I wish I had known

she would not be able to come here. It would have saved us money and perhaps, we would have not pursued each other.

Marriage and family are meant to be under one roof, or at least know when they would be together. Currently, there is no indication we will have a normal life, together in one home where I make a living and feel at home. I have a great career here in my country, and it would be almost a career suicide to move to Morocco. Add to that my entire family is here and I can not imagine myself living overseas. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of assuming I, a proud Us citizen, have the right to marry whomever and bring her home. I paid fees and went through all the steps without an RFE nor a Sponsor. My wife had never left Morocco nor done anything to raise a flag for this Ds form. BUt, it is what it is and we are just taking it one day at a time and keep praying and hoping for a miracle.

Morocco is not on the list of countries that are banned. Your wife will get her visa between 1 to 2 years if you are willing to wait and stay patient. I have a feeling from your post that you are not willing to wait that long. Don't give up.

Umar, Thank you for your optimistic outlook. But, Morocco would have been Banned was'nt it for courts. If you recall, the current administration wanted "A complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United Staes…". When the Complete Ban failed to include all, The Ds-5535 was introduced.

Again, I hope I am wrong, but it does not take a genius to read between the lines. Why on earth would it take 1 to 2 years to process the new form? And no, I am not giving up. I am afraid you misunderstood the very purpose of my post/reply. I am merely venting and looking for a solution as 1 to 2 years might turn to 3 and 4. My wife and I are not getting younger and as you may imagine, we want to start a family already. We have gone it all legally and paid fees along with complying with every aspect of the Visa process. It is very important to keep our Nation safe, but there has to be a much better system. A system that does just that, keep us safe, and hopefully not only satisfying political agendas. How long have you been waiting?

Seems extremely unlikely there will be Comprehensive Immigration Reform, has been talked about for many many years, I do not believe there is any agreement as to what it even means.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I am going to assume there is nobody out there who thinks the current system is fit for purpose.

But there is no consensus on what changes need to be made, so nothing has happened, nothing is likely to happen.

Hello my friend! This marriages are written in haven! Now that you are blessed with this sweet marriage, please be optimistic and never value any thing above marriage, no country, not a job, nothing above family and marriage. Please be patient, and travel as often as possible to meet your spouse. I made 5 visits to my wife in Tangier area in just 15 months. I value my wife more than my self, if denied the visa, I will go to court, and if court also denied my wife visa I will go to the next level and next level until the supreme court, and if the highest court denied my wife visa, I will give up the US citizenship at that point! Nothing worth in life than a loving spouse and a great family. Like your case, I have a great job in USA. I hold a terminal degree and a higher position. If my country (US) doesn't value me, I am willing to move on and live in any country that recognize my quality. This processes so far doesn't make any sense. My wife and I are VERY educated and have nothing in mind than contributing to our country (US) and the humanity at large. We are intelligent, we love life and we wanted to bring up our family to be so. We do not fit the profile for this security screening, but its what its. So my advise is to be patient. Moroccan are sweet people, seek help and support from friends and be optimistic. Always believe that the final decision comes from Allah, that me be to live with your spouse in USA or else where and always for a good reason! Never regret or heart your spouse because of this process, be grateful that you got to know and marry your spouse. I do not have Moroccan background, but married to a VERY loving beautiful Moroccan wife, and have very beautiful son from my wife. If asked to repeat this over, I will still with great love marry my wife despite of all these difficulties!

I could not have said it better. Agreed that Marriage is a blessed institution and love must conquer all. However, reality has a different picture of it all. My statements regarding my own marriage come from my deep and true love to my wife. I feel she deserves a lot better than this experience and ordeal. No one should be put in this heartless and inhuman dark hole. Had I known, I d have spared my wife this pain and suffering. As someone stated above, there is no solution nor light at the end of the tunnel here. Again, I hope I am so very wrong and that our spouses come home soon. You have been waiting for over 18 months. What are your plans? I hope you hear something soon so that this tread becomes a bit hopeful.
